Maybe My Maker (Will Let My Make My Own) ©2016 Robert George BMI

Grampa said, “The sun is coolin’ on the western hills
Like a sour lemon pie upon a windowsill
There’s a moonshine jug, a grizzly rug
Classic Coca Cola, and an old Victrola
Playin’ Bill Monroe and Flatt n Scruggs

Plate of redeye ham, a pot of reindeer stew
To complete the scene your Gramma is there, too
Yeah, when these old eyes, picture paradise
Sonny, that’s my view

And whiskey has a better taste
When it’s from my own still
If I hunt for food myself
It’s perfection on the grill
So if I’m deemed worthy of
The Good Lord’s gracious love
And he grants me a heavenly home
He’ll know I’m not a taker,
So maybe my Maker
Will let me make my own

Because me and your Grandmother tamed this rugged land
And built our farm and family with our hearts and hands
Yeah, we’d sweat and toil, on rocky soil
And I still remember, hungry, cold Decembers
till this stubborn land surrendered its spoils

She was taken first and it didn’t seem fair
Now it looks as though I’ll be seeing her there
When we meet in the clouds, I hope we build the same house
Way up in the air

Cos whiskey has a better taste
When it’s from my own still
If I hunt for food myself
It’s perfection on the grill
So if I’m deemed worthy of
The Good Lord’s gracious love
And he grants me a heavenly home
He’ll know I’m not a taker,
So maybe my Maker
Will let me make my own”

Well, I know somehow
Grampa’s with Gramma now
And my own home and family
Means just as much to me
So when I die, if it’s God’s will
I hope He lets me rebuild

Cos whiskey has a better taste
When it’s from my own still
If I hunt for food myself
It’s perfection on the grill
So if I’m deemed worthy of
The Good Lord’s gracious love
And he grants me a heavenly home
He’ll know I’m not a taker,
So maybe my Maker
Will let me make my own

He might just share my view
Cos He’s a carpenter, too
