meaning of 'original' & 'not a cover" for 1930s song?

Post by irthlingz » Sun Oct 23, 2022 8:35 pm

This pertains to https://www.taxi.com/listings?listing=S221109VG, "Original, 1930's - 1940's VINTAGE SONGS"

The listing wants "original" songs and also says "no covers".

So let's say I own the master and copyright for a recording of a song written and recorded in 1932. It was not a cover at the time; no one had ever recorded it before. What could disqualify this song for this listing? Would like to make sure I understand what listings like this are looking for. Thanks.

Original, 1930's - 1940's VINTAGE SONGS in ALL GENRES with Male or Female Vocals are needed by a very successful Music Licensing Company founded by a highly experienced Film/TV Music Executive with a long history of placements in TV Commercials, A-List Films, and TV Shows.

NOTE: We previously ran this request as TAXI Listing #S221006VN, but the Company didn't find what they were looking for, and they asked us to try again. If you submitted to listing #S221006VN, please send different material this time around.

This company will pay you UPFRONT for the Publisher's Share and Master Recording. You'll keep 100% of the Writer's share and collect performance royalties when applicable.

NOTE: This company has just recently started requesting music from TAXI's members, again. Chances are, you're not in this high-end catalog yet, so this is a golden opportunity to get in the door and begin an ongoing relationship with a powerhouse company!

We're not including references for this request, as this client is open to material in ALL (commercially viable) styles and genres – as long as the Songs were recorded between 1930 and 1949. Some popular genres from that time period include (but not limited to): Big Band, Blues, Jazz, Country, Traditional Pop, Crooner, etc.

Click here to check out these lists of top singles of the 1930's and 1940's to get inspired.

Please send them top-notch, original, vintage recordings that capture the sound and essence of music from the 1930's and 40's. Your submissions can range from simple and stripped-down to more filled-out arrangements – as long as they are on par with what would have been popular during the era. Captivating melodies, excellent performances and musicianship, genre-appropriate production, and compelling, well-performed vocals (nothing pitchy or out-of-time!) are all required for this request.

Make sure your Songs were actually recorded BETWEEN 1930 and 1949 (give or take a couple years), otherwise this company cannot use them! They DO NOT want material that was recently recorded and made to sound old. They can only use AUTHENTIC, ORIGINAL, VINTAGE RECORDINGS, and only if the sound quality is reasonably good. This is a great opportunity to make money with music you might have thought had no hope in today’s market!

NOTE: If you know somebody who might have material like this and they don’t belong to TAXI yet, please forward this to them! This company is hungry to find as many oldies as they can, so your friend may want to join TAXI to take advantage of this incredibly rare opportunity!

This company offers an EXCLUSIVE deal. Your name needs to be on the Copyright (do NOT submit for friends!). Your Songs need to be original compositions (no covers), and you need to own or control the Copyright and Master recordings to submit for this pitch. Please submit as many Songs as you’d like online or per CD. Please include lyrics. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI. Submissions must be received no later than 11:59PM (PST) on Wednesday, November 9th, 2022. TAXI # S221109VG

If it is an original song recorded in 1932, you meet the criteria of the listing.
