Yes, I think most I've heard are combined with western chord patterns, or maybe contemporary jazz in many cases. I hear quite a bit of hybrid scale patterns too. I guess the key is - does it sound Eastern and have that cool vibe that is distinctly that "thing".

What I had to figure out is that the “Eastern scales” I love to use are not totally compatible with the “easy listening” vibe the listing seems to want.
Yes I’ve heard flourishes of altered scales but the chords seem pretty standard (in other words its only now I'm realizing why my early drafts didn't work!)
