Update=MidEast Rock Mix (Quirky) SIGNED!!!

Post by cassmcentee » Tue Jul 14, 2020 8:11 am

It took 2 more mixes... (was pretty much ready to give up)
One mix from Scratch, one final tweak for the Library!
Help from Collaborators, the Forum, and the Library Owner got it done!
I'll leave this mix up till tomorrow night. 7/21

[highlight]
I've posted this tune a couple of times...
The library wants it but has sent it back several times for Remixing...
How does this mix work in your monitors?
All thoughts are welcomed

Too much low mid and "bite" in general in both base and snare... it's not a stadium rock track!

Did they give any indications as to why they wanted it remixed ?

To me it sounds over compressed and a bit lifeless ( drums especially ) and also kind of dull and thuddy - also the mix sounds overly wide to me , there's not much in the centre and it sounds a bit weird

It also depends on what they are referencing against

Thanks Gents!
Mark, it always seems to be the drums that get the rejection...
Having a hard time with 'em...
Okay, back at it again
Thanks

Fun track - there's a lot going on! I love the mash of styles and the opposition of the guitars/mandolin. Drums/Snare are perhaps a bit big / compressed but that does fit with how the song ends - perhaps less so in the beginning. I could def. see it working, but the call might have to be pretty specific. The two 'matrix moments' - (I love them btw) - might be a bit jarring. For me, I was loving the groove and it snapped me right out of it. For the right moment/call though, it would be very cool!

Hi bud. like this muchly. I played a few sections over and over and I hear timing issues? 26 to 27 ish...then 32-36. Throws me off a bit. Also to me the drums are so busy with off beats, it puts some confusion in the mix? (in my professional view as an accomplished musician..ha ha) I would also mess with slowing it down just a tad. I don't know if your DAW will do that easily. Studio one does that for me in a few seconds. i am old and could be all wet on all of those trivial nits. Just have always loved your stuff and seeing you "in the mix" is cool.
Thankfully, while growing old is compulsory, growing up remains optional!

What are you using for drums ? A lot of the time these drum VST's sound good right out the box with minimal tweaking...first rule of mixing...do no harm

Hey Cass,

Kool piece! I like how you've incorporated the Middle Eastern flavor in with the hard rock! I listened to this through my desktop bose speakers. I tend to agree that there are some points where the drums sound 'thumpy'. But, I didn't hear the timing issues that was mentioned. Overall, this is a kool tune!

Best,
Steve

Can't hear any issues with it timing wise.

Mix wise it sounds like a good one with too much compression and pumping.

Feel for where you are coming from have been down the same hole dealing with remixes for Libraries.
It can be easy to over correct to the feedback (pun not intended but apt as well)
