Midi patterns for Bass?
In the olden days, we'd have to construct our own midi drum patterns note by note. Now there are countless drum kits with countless drum patterns available that save hours of programming time and produce better results.
I'm wondering - are there any equivalent libraries of midi patterns for bass that offer an assortment of authentic-sounding patterns in various styles, grooves, and chord progressions, from which you could construct your song and edit as needed?
A product like this would seem to fill a need, especially when tight deadlines are a consideration.

imagine if John Williams and Trent Reznor met at Bernard Hermann's for lunch and Brian Eno was the head chef!

Richard,
Another possible short cut if you use Trillian is the ability to drag and drop a midi file into the arpeggiator.
I did a blues shuffle recently and recorded a pattern that would repeat as the track went thru the changes. Just holding down a key trigger the pattern for the appropriate chord.
I've had the thought that you could do the same thing on a ii7 V7 progression and trigger the pattern to go thru the changes of a jazz tune with one of the great acoustic basses in Trillian.
Over time, tune by tune, one could build up their own library of patterns.

Well Richard, there is a composition program called Pizzicato Composition Pro, or Professional, amongst the many features you can also import Yamaha style files. The yamaha style files are made for yamaha arrangers. You can buy them from the yamaha website or get a ton of free ones, though I have to say some of the free ones are crap, or don't work correctly, and many are the same crap ones with multi-titles. The yamaha style files contain midi intro, rhythm, break and end.

Re: Midi patterns for Bass?
Thanks for all the suggestions. I use Digital Performer, so the files would need to be compatible with DP.
In thinking more about this, I realize I'm not looking for run-of-the-mill formulaic bass patterns. I'm more interested in bass lines geared to electronica, hybrid/techno, or modern jazz-rock fusion music which, ideally, would sound like they were being performed by the best virtuosic players around. And once I found usable patterns and began assembling them into full pieces, I would expect to do a lot of editing to make them my own, so that the original lines would just be a starting point.
It is possible something like that exists?

You could use a programmable arpeggiator for that. The Catanya arp. does this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=09ixxQO5kVk It comes with presets for lots of instruments like piano, synths, strings and bass, and you can very easily go in and edit or write your own. You can adjust velocity ect. Great time saver. I got it and it works especially well for those genres you mention. You can even "play" it by changing presets/your own saved presets, while recording.

This looks great! But apparently it only works with PCs, not Macs. Am I wrong about that?thesongcabinet wrote:You could use a programmable arpeggiator for that. Alternative for Mac could be http://www.sugar-bytes.com/content/prod ... hp?lang=en . I haven't tried that, though, but it looks nice too.remmet wrote:... apparently it only works with PCs, not Macs. Am I wrong about that?

Thesys looks very cool, and not just for bass lines! (Can you imagine all the ways you could mangle an orchestra piece???)thesongcabinet wrote:
