Mix Critique Resource

Post by AnthonyCeseri » Thu Sep 14, 2023 4:42 pm

Do you know of a site or somewhere I can go to get my mixes reviewed?

I know there are places to post them publicly, but I have quite a few songs I'd like checked out so I can properly tweak them. So if this is offered somewhere as a service it would be a helpful learning tool.

Thanks!

Have you tried Taxi? ;)
You can pay for a custom critique.
Graham (UK). Still composing a little faster than decomposing, and 100% HI.

Hey -- thanks for the reply. Yes, I've used Taxi for overall song critiques, but I was looking for something that's specific to the details of a song mix. Then again, I suppose I could mention that's what I'm looking for when ordering a Taxi custom critique. Thanks for the idea.

I joined the Produce Like A Pro Academy. That comes with a forum and a Facebook group. Though I will say the Facebook group is not super active like it used to be and while I do see some posting in the Facebook group for feedback there's not a lot of that happening there. They do a private feedback Friday livestream but last I checked it was for a specific song of the week that they'll release multitracks for.

Personally I'm looking for the same thing. All the production music groups are great for feedback but it would be nice to get some feedback purely from mixers. The mixing/mastering is what I'm really trying to dial in right now.

You can also post links in the Peer to Peer channel and request mix feedback specifically 😊

Yes, I think you should try a custom and make it clear that you are asking about the mix. Taxi assigns the custom critiques to a screener best suited to what the member's questions are. You probably already know about the peer-to-peer section of this forum. We have some excellent mixing folks who participate regularly. The road rally (as well as this forum) is great both for the classes and the people you can meet and build relationships with. These relationships are invaluable for collaboration and giving each other feedback.

Best,
:D Casey

Thanks, guys -- good tips!

Btw, for anyone else looking for this kind of mix review resource, I found out there's a tabs on SoundBetter that offers it now: https://soundbetter.com/products/soundcheck

The main pro for this is they've got some heavyweight industry professionals who can give you feedback (like Andrew Scheps -- although his always seems to be sold out, go figure).
The main con is it's pricey, so it would be hard to justify doing too many of them.

Haven't tried this yet, but seems pretty cool.

I know Mike Senior author of ' MIxing Sounds For The Small Studio ' who also wrote the mix review column fo Sound On Sound for many years offers this service - I used him way back before I got into Sync to get my mixes up to scratch and he is very good.
