More Music for Zombies...

Post by jeromerossen » Thu Aug 01, 2013 4:59 pm

Hi there-

I'm new here at the forums, though I've been using taxi for a bit. Though I've had a handful of forwards, it seems like I'm always a bit unsure when I submit something. Anyway, I submitted "Another Zombie Love Song" and "Darkness on Avenue Z" (both on my Taxi page). Also, I took the listing really literally about "producing it to sound old-fashioned". I'm curious what you all think.

Part of the listing: "HOLLYWOOD MUSIC SUPERVISOR working on a cool and scary FILM needs RETRO SOUNDING JAZZ SONGS or INSTRUMENTALS with a creepy, dark, weird, haunting, yearning, sad or melancholy feel. TAXI #U130801JZ"

Thanks!

Jerome

Whoops! Thanks for pointing that out, and sorry for the virtual wild-goose chase! I think I fixed all my links in my signature now. Thanks again for checking this stuff out...

Your taxi link should be: www.taxi.com/jeromerossen.
Change it to that in your signature and you should be good to go.

Hope that helps?

OK - I think I fixed it now - no really! I see now that I got mixed up between using taxi.com and taximusic.com. OK - now, it should work. Thanks for getting me on the right track (so to speak).

There it is!

Wow, your stuff is GREAT!! You've got some chops there! This listing was pretty confusing to me, as I thought the emphasis would be on the "horror" and not so much on the jazz. I hope this client knows what she wants when she hears it.

I actually thought your piece, "they're getting closer" might fit too? It had a nice suspenseful vibe to it.

Best of luck!!

PS ... I just thought of you when I saw this listing arrive in my email. Do you have a taxi dispatch membership?
If I had your material, I most DEFINITELY would submit!!

JAZZ INSTRUMENTALS IN ALL STYLES are needed by an amazingly successful Film & TV Music Publisher, that's landed tons of great placements for our members. This is the company's first listing with TAXI in over a year (we've given them so much great music they didn't need anything new for a while)! So, anything you've written recently is music they probably hasn't heard yet!

Their V.P. heavily stressed that the tracks MUST "absolutely sound like a real performance." Anything that sounds event remotely MIDI cannot be used by this company. We strongly suggest giving them pieces that are at least two minutes in length, and buttoned endings will put a smile on his face. Buttoned endings are just easier to get placed. Editors love those buttons!

Solo piano, guitar, etc. are okay to pitch for this, as well as Jazz combos, and even big bands. But again, the instruments and performances must sound like real people playing real instruments. Setting a mood or creating a feeling of being in a certain era (like Big Band of the '40s) is the goal here. It's not about what a virtuoso you are, or that you recorded with a Grammy-winning engineer. They care much more about authenticity, and how your piece will work with the scene, dialog, and of course, the mood they're trying to create or enhance!

ALL TEMPOS are okay for this pitch. The terms of this agreement will be determined on a song-by-song basis when entering into a relationship with the company. You must own or control 100% of your Master and Composition in order to submit for this Library. Please submit one to three instrumentals online or per CD. Please submit one to three instrumentals online or per CD. All submissions will be screened on a Yes/No basis and must be received no later than NOON (PDT) on Wednesday, August 7, 2013. Hi Peter-
Thanks so much for listening to these tracks... and for your comments!

So tough for me to know what the Supervisor is looking for - your approach is really interesting and it might just be right!

I haven't done Dispatch, though it's been on my radar. I'd like to explore it more and figure out how it fits into my writing and producing work-flow.... or just maybe wait until I'm sitting on more tracks to send?

Jerome
