It's $259.99 Canadian and yes it is consider a pencil mic. Are you checking the single price? Yes a pair is $560.00 can.

The 990 mx/991 is 170.00 here so only $100.00 more.

If you like the sound of my guitar on the Night sessions then it is the Rode NT5 I am using.

Double mic on acoustic guitar is more hassle than it's worth.
Unless you have other people scuttling around looking for the sweet spots for you - then I would probably go Yay it's the best way.

I'm looking ONLY for ONE inexpensive pencil mic for close-mic'd use for mandolin or tenor guitar with desktop mac for ZOOM stuff.
I don't use or need a pair of mics... but the MXL seem only available as a pair - and are very reasonably priced via Sweetwater; cheaper than the RODE NT5.

Oops sorry - got the mic pair thing in my head from reading the thread.

this small vs large diaphragm thing - I can see the logic but large diaphragm mics sound great on acoustic guitars as well.

pencils do seem more ergonomic though

My bad - not tenor guitar: tenor BANJO, and mandolin. That's what I want the pencil mic for, specifically.
Either way - the MXL pair are marked down at Sweetwater for $103 USD.
I suppose I could put the large diaphragm MXL on Craigslist and get some $ back that way.

I already have good large diaphragm mics.
