My 1st instrumental cue, INPUT NEEDED PLS

Post by DavidJarvis » Mon Jan 04, 2016 1:26 pm

Hello,

I Just submitted my first instrumental cue to this;

CONTEMPORARY URBAN-Style INSTRUMENTAL CUES are needed by a NON-Exclusive Music Library that’s supplying music directly to the editors of a big TV Series on a Major Cable Network. Give them well-crafted, Down-to-Mid-Tempo Cues in the general stylistic ballpark of artists like Meek Mill, The Weeknd, Tory Lanez, etc., etc., etc. Take a careful listen to the references below to get in the stylistic ballpark of what he needs:

“All Eyes On You” by Meek Mill:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ut9ThAbfde0

“The Hills” by The Weeknd:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzTuBuRdAyA

“Say It” by Tory Lanez:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUq1rZ7mmns

Although the references have vocals, please submit Instrumentals only for this pitch. Please submit Cues with infectious beats, a big booming bass, and ear catching hooks to keep them interesting from start to finish. Stick to a focused, central melodic theme, while adding and subtracting instrumentation as the cue progresses to keep it from sounding too linear. Current sounds and production will get you a gold star for this pitch!

Here is a link to the submission;

I would appreciate any input, as I am new to instrumental cues (and Taxi), I am comitted to making this my career, so I need to know what adjustments I need to make to have it happen!!!
Thanks in advance!!!

Hey, David. Welcome to TAXI! Nice track. This style isn't exactly my strong suit, but I think the only thing missing would be the strong "Hook" to catch my ear like they were asking for. Of course, I could be wrong.

Thanks Joeseph,

I am trying to produce/compose....somewhere. I have been working hard at getting better. But, without having any one else around me that is seriously trying to make music/beats, it is hard to progress without feedback.
Then I post stuff on these platforms to showcase your stuff with other "producers", and I wonder if ANYONE has listened to it at all...
Sorry for whining, but thanks for the input, I really appreciate it!!!

This is really top notch. It can be tough to get a hook into this kind of cue, since the hook normally comes from someone rapping. I think you did a good job of sneaking those little synth parts in, as well as the vocal sample, to give it a little juice.

My one piece of advice is to keep things simple. Like, take one layer away, then switch it out with another later in the track. It keeps interest without making the track too busy.

@Cbron,
Thanks a lot man!

I was definately trying not to keep it too busy as you said. When I was making this I was excited about NOT having to worry about removing layers for the vocalist, its a tricky balance.
Also, I was not sure how "empty" cues need to be. Do they fade it so far in the backround that the more subtle synths are not even heard?
I'll be interested to see what waters im swimming in when it comes to forward or reverse..lol
