my grandaughter challanged by a long distance love-just wait

Post by feaker66 » Fri Oct 20, 2023 6:37 am

My granddaughter Grace started recording her own songs when she was 12. She just stopped one day and didn't pick up a guitar until this year age 18. The previous year at school her teacher here in the US sat her in class between two foreign exchange students from Spain and France because "she was a good communicator? Well she fell in the in love with Einyo from Spain. Not sure the spelling.
Grace has worked at the local quick stop from right after school till 9 at night every school nights and weekends and earned enough money to supplement her college first year. She spent $800 of in for a plane ticket to Spain. Eeenyo reciprocated a couple months later.
It was Gracie's fist love and now she is so sad. Not at all sure of their future. She sat on the edge of her bed and with her cheapy mini guitar and iPhone sent me this song last night. Turned me upside down. She just said "what do you think Gramps"? I haven't responded yet because I am not sure if I should encourage that relationship or try to comfort her? We have always been real close cuz her dad abandoned her early on.
Of course this is a very crude track with an out od tune mini guitar an a fan blowing. Just a true story.

That's really beautiful! It's great that she can express herself this way. With some tweaks, that could be a marketable song once produced. She has talent. Sorry for her pain. :(

FWIW, Paul - I had an Italian friend by that name - he spelled it Ennio, I think.

It's hard to be objective when it is your granddaughter. I am just so glad she started playing and recoring again even if it is only on her phone. thanks Casey

Hey Peter those are great encouraging comments. She was singing with me on my lap at age eight and close to perfect key. When she was ten she showed me some songs she was writing about girls in her class that were being bullied. That is when I bought her a mini guitar and taught her a few chords. She had D G and C in one day. The rest was history. She used to sing the harmony to Dylan's blowin in the wind and wondered if she could use that melody line. As a joke I said only if you use the words blowin in the wind in the verse. She wrote three verses here is one and the chorus.

I'm a little daisy "blowin in the wind" I wish that I had a friend
Oh my my I see a butterfly I wish that he would stop in.
Hey there butterfly would you be my friend
could you would you be my friend.

Well thank you Mr. CD. I will pass that along letting her know you are the most critical and accurate dude here. Very loveable child she is.

I think some light strings with Romantic era voice leadings could complement this track quite well. Let me know if you want to talk in more detail.

Beautiful expression, honesty plays well.

Michael
