Need alas and genre thoughts.

Post by songmaster » Tue Dec 11, 2018 9:14 am

Hi Everyone I just had this " bare bones " song done by the great Robbie Hancock and I was wondering what genre this might be and if any alas come to mind, it would really help me when I submit it to a library etc. The song is " You And Me" and it is on my Taxi page. The lyrics are below. Thanks all in advance. P.S. if you can't get to my Taxi page ( cause I think there is a glitch again ) it is on soundcloud.

You And Me

Gonna hang a picture frame, of you and me
Cause I crave your pretty face, can barely breathe
When it's cold and it snows
We got you and me to hold
Burning love will be the heat
For you and me, baby you and me

Gonna take you for a ride, along the coast
By the shore in my mind, with sailing boats
We will land in the sand
Margaritas in our hands
And feel the salty summer breeze
On you and me, baby you and me

When I'm awake, in the dead of night
You got me talking to the moon
When you're not here, you're on my mind
I'm a crazy mess, when I'm missing you

Gonna hold you near to me, when I'm asleep
You'll be there in my dreams, where lovers meet
We will dance in the dark
Maybe get drunk in the park
Then we'll make love beneath the trees
Just you and me, baby you and me

Thanks Tom! I will look it up, it sounds interesting. I've always wondered if something like that was possible.

Lovely Tune! (Singer/Songwriter)
It's definitely a Jack Johnson/Jason Mraz Rhythm
Was expecting light percussion to start in on the 2nd verse
Since the overall vocal line didn't really build any bigger than the start...
...I would have to use instrumentation to lightly grow the song and then strip bare for the end
Well Done!

Thanks Cass for the 2 alas. I can see where it could use some extra instruments, but I thought I would try and keep it really striped down for this one. Thank you for having a listen. Much apprecitated :)

Little bit of Ray Lamontaigne as well. The harmony at 1:17 caught my ear as being a little sour.

Thanks eeoo! I like the Ray Lamontaigne ala. I will look into the harmony at 1:17. Thanks for your ears :)

Yeah definitely the Jack Johnson and Jason Mzar rhythm going on.

Robbie's vocal is different though. Almost a little bit of Paul Simon on this.

Thanks John for the confirmation on the Jack Johnson and Jason Mraz alas. Yes, Robbie gave this song a nice laid back feeling, maybe a little Paul Simon, like ( hello darkness my old friend ) kind of thing. At least now I know the direction the song is going in. :)
