Need Feedback on Singer Songwriter Instrumental Cues

Post by robroper » Sat Dec 24, 2016 5:49 pm

Hi Taxi folks,

Wondering if anybody out there is not doing the Christmas Eve thing tonight (or the Christmas thing tomorrow) and might have time to listen to a couple of things I'm thinking about submitting for the "Singer Songwriter Instrumental Cue" listing. Yeah I know. How can it be Singer Songwriter if there's no lyrics and nobody singing? But that gave me an idea-- about 3 years ago I wrote and recorded some music, intending to write lyrics for them. One I did write lyrics for, the other is still waiting on me. But maybe that's what would work for this?

Here's the two songs I'm thinking about submitting. Notice they don't have names yet, just numbers. I'll name them before submitting. Also, they're long. 6:49 and 6:09. I could cut some verses out if necessary. But on the other hand, maybe it would allow the client to slice and dice as they want?

Here's the listing:

CURRENT-SOUNDING SINGER/SONGWRITER INSTRUMENTAL CUES are needed by a large Media Company’s NON-Exclusive, In-House Music Library for several of their TV Shows. They’re looking for contemporary Singer/Songwriter Instrumental Cues in All-Tempos that could be heard on a playlist with acts like (but not limited to):

“Love On The Weekend” by John Mayer:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZzqLtnBc1dg

“Dont” by Ed Sheeran:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iD2rhdFRehU

“Arms” by Christina Perri:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MeW0Sl0tNS8

Although the references above have vocals, this pitch is for instrumentals only. Submit well-crafted Instrumental Cues that can range from simple but compelling stripped-down pieces like solo guitar or piano Cues to more fully Cues that include full band instrumentation. Please avoid using any instruments that sounds stiff or obviously MIDI-driven or quantized.

All Cues should be at least 2 minutes in length. Non-faded, buttoned endings with natural ring outs are recommended. Please do NOT copy or rip off the referenced artists in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a general guide for tempo, texture, tone, and overall vibe. Broadcast quality is needed (great sounding home recordings are fine).

This company offers a NON-EXCLUSIVE, 50/50 deal. You’ll split any applicable sync fees 50/50. You’ll get 100% of the Master rights and Writer’s share, and the Library will get 100% of the Publishing for any placements they generate. You must own or control your Master and Copyright to submit for this opportunity. Please submit one to three Instrumentals online or per CD. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI and must be received no later than 11:59PM (PST), on Sunday, December 25th, 2016. TAXI #S161225SS

That's weird. If I login to Soundcloud, the links work. When I logout of Soundcloud, they don't work. Anybody seen this problem before and know how to fix it?

Len-- thanks for trying to listen to them. Hope I can get this problem fixed soon.

Rob

I figured out the problem. Soundcloud adds extra stuff to the end of the URL's when you set them to private. You can't copy the URL, you have to click on the "Share" button and use that URL. "Sharing is Caring" I guess. Anyway, try these:

Thanks for listening!

Rob, 135 works except for the feedback, it is very bright and piercingly loud. 259, there's that feedback at the end, lol!
The piano in 259 sounds like it has one velocity, and it's heavy. It seems like DUM DUM DUM DUM should be DUM DUM, da DUM maybe, perhaps it was a place holder for a vocal? Rob, overall very well composed and performed.

Hi

My thoughts are, start the cue from 0.46 - remove the ambient start.
Have more elaborate drum fills.
