Please submit well-produced Country Rock Instrumental Cues that fire on all cylinders from start to finish.
So I'm going to back up here though I appreciate what Alan is saying but from the listing the first line of what is needed
How would any of you interpret this? :D
Please don't misunderstand my comments, I'm certainly not saying you should ditch any of the hard, gritty, driving elements
From my listening to the ref tracks, as well as "archetypal" cues - and the stick-figure drawings that ML has displayed on Taxi TV (!!) - it seems to me that at some point there's a breakdown to soft, then the layered build back up to massive. The editors IMHO want enough variety to make choices. If they want 60 sec of full-throttle blast, you've given it to them. If they need to insert a softer 'donut hole' in the cut, you've given them material to do that too. They'll use whatever you've delivered in your smorgasbord of sound [I bet there's a southern rock version of smorgasbord] to accomplish their goal. 2 minutes is a very long buffet table!
Yes I agree Alan, I have those same "conflicting" thoughts when I think about ML's advice vs what the listings imply
So the safest route would seem to be the donut hole concept
Oh BTW I was not dismissing your advice in any way my friend :D
I think this is a good example of the "confusion" people have when it comes to listings
My co-writer Bob, thinks that perhaps the Whiskey Myers - Die Rockin is the "throw away" reference beings that the other two are less aggressive

I agree the other two ref tracks have more of the 'country' feel to them, with acoustic guitar, bar-room piano, mandolin/banjo, and whatnot. But I can definitely hear the 'fire on all cylinders' in the Whiskey Myers track. So, confused? Yeah, me too.

I'm going try to avoid my original notion of the typical cue that starts out light, then builds. This is one time the 'start big' model works well. Public speakers say the first thing and the last thing an orator says is what's remembered. My takeaway is that a cue made BIG - something in the middle - BIG allows the editor to put together whatever they want, and it still fires "from start to finish". JM2C

Thankfully, while growing old is compulsory, growing up remains optional!

Along the same line (of thinking about what the editor needs), maybe a more definite edit point around 1:16-1:18?
