New forum member.
Hi all,
I'm a new member on the forum, although I've been wondering around here for a couple of months now.
I saw how warm hearthed and helpfull everyone was and decided to join and follow the first tip I got in
the newbie-section, introduce yourself! As short and brief as possible ... here we go!
I'm Henry, 28 year old student, musician, aspiring recording and mixing engineer and currently living at
the European Atlantic coast for now.
Played +10 yrs in a metal band (guitar), 2 yrs in a rock/ska band (sax/guitar) and a few guest shows
for local bands. Don't consider myself as a pro-musician because I am REALLY NOT.
I'm no virtuoso technical player but I know my playing is decent enough to play 95% of the
current mainstream pop/rock songs I hear on the radio.
Currently I'm composer/guitarist for a female singer who just signed her first deal on a medium to major
label and I also started a rock band as a university-project. I've been juggling around with sounds and
music since I was 15 and never stopped since. Many times just weird music or unfinished ideas came out
but a very few times I manage to do some cool stuff. Six months ago I earned my very first decent money
for composing two commercials for a culture-festival on national movie theaters and television. It was a
lot of stress with very short deadlines but loved every minute of it.
I started an bachelor in Recording Arts and I'm over half of the process right now. I did a few internships
in a few high end studios and learned a whole lot about this love we all share. I also had the immense
luck to find a new decent (not to big but) high end studio where I could try stuff and work for free.
Currently I'm the only engineer there as the owner is way too busy with his other business. I try as much
as possible and spend every free time I have in it. Recording, mixing, improving as many bands, projects
and artists as possible. Attempting to improve my skills I managed to get a few sessions with an old teacher and
major-label-songwriter to get any comments on my songs. Hard knocks really.
The last tip I really applied was "collaborate with people!" and I recently started collaborating
with an Australian screenwriter/lyricist to improve the lyrical content of my ideas.
As most of my music-related jobs are for free or very little money and studying in a very expensive
school I'm quiet poor and obliged to work in weekends. Don't have much or any free time and would
love to work more efficiently, finishing songs would be the biggest issue here.
I thought about subscribing to TAXI and will do this in coming months as my life will be a little less hectic.
I still have a huge amount to learn and thats why I'm here.
My goal is to write on daily basis and finishing every good idea I have.
"Writing one idea every day!" is the tip I got from my songwriting-mentor and I'm nowhere near that at the moment....
This sums my life I guess. Sorry for the long post but thought of giving a good background.
Really looking forward to be around here and participate in the discussions and sharing stuff.
Thanks to all
Welcome in my life Henry

Thankfully, while growing old is compulsory, growing up remains optional!
