New song, anyone got time to listen?

Post by steini » Fri Jan 25, 2008 1:53 pm

Back again with a brand new song, this one is the style that comes naturally for me. I'm gonna try to pitch it to the romantic/relaxing listings, hope you all agree that thats the style.http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... tream=1Now I ask you pro's three things:1. Is the sound getting broadcast q, I'm really working on the sounds these day.2. What genre is my music, I still cant find out.3. What do you think I could do better? and do you all mix your mp3's? I feel I loose alot when converting to mp3, or maybe it's just the difference from going to the pc card from the digi box. Thanks againSteini

Stein,I really liked your piece. I'd say it is very relaxing, but not maybe not really all that romantic. There is probably a better title than FRAGILE. Seemed more PEACEFUL or THOUGHTFUL to me.I don't have a great producer's ear for sound quality but I bet you are close if not at broadcast quality. See what the experts say.Genre seems like MODERN COMPOSERS to me.I don't feel like I lose a lot when converting to mp3, but my ears .. my speakers .. maybe others would hear it.Dean

Yay Stieni that is a really beautiful piece. I think it fits the romantic instrumental, as well as relaxing contemplative, as well as lost, wandering, waiting. A great range of emotions can be emanated from this in the right scene. Production wise, I think the oboe sounds terrific and very authentic. I suspect that it is synth generated, but the attention to velocities and performance are very good. The strings and pads are decent as well, but I wonder if you could layer in another track or two of solo violin and cello over the part and blend it to get just a little more authentic. Also, from my year and some on the forum I picked up on a trick from Matto, Mazz, and Aub where you make a copy of the solo tracks and pan them 180 (or actually less than 180 but on the opposite side) from the main track, take it down to 1/4 volume, and add effects like chorus, and delay and some reverb. When it mixes with the main track (which is kept pretty dry), it adds a lot of subtle ambiance and makes for phantom micro second illusions in the stereo image that fattens the sound and makes it sound more alive and real. I think the piano part needs to be revisited with this treatment especially. It felt to me like I heard clipping and too much of a direct line plug sound from the piano part. Somewhere I heard that using the trick mentioned above with very soft piano pads can work to make the piano sound like a Stienway on the stage of Carnegie Hall. I think the track is great as it is, but that clipping on the piano might ding it from broadcast q. The ideas above are things you can experiment with, and hopefully the Grand Masters, Matto, Mazz, Dave, and Aub will chime in with more details about that technique. I'd like to know a little more about it myself. Hope that helps.ArkJack

I'm not a pro by any means, but I like the piece a great deal. I thought it did indeed fit the romantic feel as well as the rest mentioned. The sound quality was equal to most of the music on iTunes played thru my laptop. I could definitely hear this a film score. I hope this helps.Well Done,Bubba

I'm seeing a train leave the station, two people in love but separating. A boat leaving harbor or an airplane taking off and he/she's left walking through the airport or driving home. That sort of thing. From 0:55 it's as though the person has gone. I don't know, just how my mind is interpreting it. It's not all that sad though, maybe because they are still in love! The piano is my thing and anything like this I can relate to.I'm about as technical as a turd to be honest so I can't help you with any of that side of things! Just thought I' share my thoughts. If you upped the tempo and got rid of some of the other instruments I'd go for something a bit Coldplay V's Moby and work with winding some lyrics in there lol (but I don't mean it's not perfect as it is), it's probably just my age! Thanks for sharing this beautiful piece of music.Lindsey.
