Post by rabiang » Fri Jan 20, 2012 12:12 pm

Hi,

I am at the mixing stage of a new song featuring another taxi member on vocal. If anyone has any comments, i would love to hear them!

Hi Chris,

The main thing for me was I wasn't able to hear some of the lyrics at times though I will admit I was listening through the air and not on headphones. Just my two cents. - Roger

I agree with Roger about the vocals. There were moments where I couldn't hear the words.
More compression and eq tweaking with synth and vox should fix it.

Same comment here.
Get those vocals out in front. Compression and some automation for the chorus.

Yes, or just turn the strings down a little (relative to the vocal) 'cause the vocal currently sounds right compared to the piano. ;)

BTW, sounds like your not using a pop screen...heard quite a few plosives.

Hi Chris,

Better. There's still a couple of spots where it gets very quiet (on "bread" I think later on in the song and "meant so much more to me" in the first chorus). However I am saying this as a rock guy where dynamics are usually compressed like crazy. I can understand the words through the air at this point which I wasn't able to do before so this is probably fine. Hope that helps. - Roger

Thanks, roger! I will def look into those parts you mention. I want to keep some dynamics too, cause its quite an emotional song.
