"New York City Cowboy"

Post by smaltonian » Fri May 16, 2008 7:17 am

Hey Guys....Here's a tune I just finished recording...Singer/Songwriter tune called "New York City Cowboy"...Steve Altonianhttp://www.soundclick.com/stevealtonian“NEW YORK CITY COWBOY”Late December morning, rain is pouringBut life don’t stop in the city that never sleepsHe steps off the subway, ain’t going nowhereWipes his boots off and heads down Second StreetThis ain’t no town to be aloneBut sometimes you can’t go home---can’t go home(CHORUS):He’s a “NEW YORK CITY COWBOY” slinging guitarHe believes in God and still sings songs of loveBorn and raised in NashvilleBut that was oh so many lifetimes agoHe’s a “NEW YORK CITY COWBOY”He thinks about her, and life without herThe life they had before Jesus took her homeHe was her childhood sweetheart, her white knight in armorHe keeps her picture tucked inside his coatOh the tears pour down in the rainThings will never be the same---be the same(CHORUS):He’s a “NEW YORK CITY COWBOY” slinging guitarHe believes in God and still sings songs of loveBorn and raised in NashvilleBut that was oh so many lifetimes agoHe’s a “NEW YORK CITY COWBOY”This ain’t no town to be aloneBut sometimes you can’t go home ---can’t go home(CHORUS):He’s a “NEW YORK CITY COWBOY” slinging guitarHe believes in God and still sings songs of loveBorn and raised in NashvilleBut that was oh so many lifetimes agoHe’s a “NEW YORK CITY COWBOY”He’s a “NEW YORK CITY COWBOY”He’s a “NEW YORK CITY COWBOY”c) 2005 Steve Altonian

Steve,I really like your song, especially the chord progression in the verses. The only thing that seemed a bit awkward to me was the "Born and raised in Nashville" line. Although it's a memorable line, "Nashville" seems a bit awkward at the end of the sentence. Have you considered "Nashville born and raised"? Not sure if it has as much impact that way but it flows better. Then again, Merle Haggard was always doing things like that and it never hurt his career.Keep up the good work. It sounds like a hit to me.Cameron

truly Beautiful Steve!its great to hear so many good songs in a day on taxi...guys like you keep that bar raised~man, the ONLY thing that i wish i heard a bit different, was the little violin break be panned stereo rather than all on the right channed..it made me tilt my head to try to balance the mix out; )best to you, Steve~

SILVERCORDThanks for checking out the song....Yeah he panned it all right side but sometimes I let the smaller things go for the overall sound....NEVER USED TO....But I micromanaged too much....I STILL micromanage but a tad less..............LOLI appreciate all your feedback

Wow, this is really good.It is a lot better than a lot of country I hear out there.Don't you catch yourself saying that? I do. "how did that song make it, it's awful!!"I think you can pat yourself on the back and say you gave this your best shot.Good luck Sincerely Paul

Hi Steve, really good tune, kinda production that always makes me jealous..... like your voice as well, never been a huge country fan but this is cool (BTW so is "Tell me why". listening now).I think you might have two different lyrical themes going here.... the "New York City Cowboy" and the loss of a loved one.... You might consider focusing on the NY aspect, the fish outa water, cowboy in the concrete jungle, etc. and develop the second verse along those lines....The music sounds great.... good job...Peace, Geo

hey steve--for what it's worth, i love this tune. wonderful job all the way around, didn't do more than just listen once--not in a critique mode today--don't think it needs much--very very nice. just hope it gets recognized as quality--and yeah to everybody up there earlier--i still don't get the c/w "bar" being so "high" when i hear too much crap on the ray-dee-oh in the genre. se la vee. if you chose to play here, that's the way it is. aint no messure of complaining gunna change it. (hasn't yet for me...)keep it up steve, the best to you, warren
