Newman-esque?
Here's my Newman-esque venture "A Minor Incident" http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... &stream=1I tried to get the darkly playful vibe that Newman is so great at.MazzLIGHT ORCHESTRAL/PERCUSSION SCORES a la the compositions of Thomas Newman are needed by an established and high profile LA-based Music Library. Great, authentic instrumental sounds and performances are essential. The overall approach should be light and playful, if somewhat suspenseful as an undertone, with the sonic emphasis placed on the percussive rhythms and tones.

imagine if John Williams and Trent Reznor met at Bernard Hermann's for lunch and Brian Eno was the head chef!

Re: Newman-esque?
Mazz, this is great! I like it alot. It seems very much in the style to me, based on the listening I"ve been doing to Newman's various scores. The only part that slightly stuck out to me was the ending, I wanted it to be more odd, less "usual". But that's probably just me. Good work, and beautiful sounds, they are samples, yes? From what library? Except the vocal sounds like a real person, I love that touch! --Mer

Re: Newman-esque?
Hi Mer,Thanks a lot. I went with a straight ending for library usage, hopefully it's not too ordinary, thanks for the feedback.Lots of different libraries on this on, no vocal, though, not sure what sound you're hearing but it's cool that it reminds you of a vocal. I used EWQLSO for the strings, cymbals, marimba, vibes, celeste, Stylus and EZ drummer for the drums and other metal percussion (also taiko drums from Nine Volt Audio), Yellow Tools Majestic for the bass, a tabla loop from Pure Tabla, and moody lap steel from Quantum Leap Guitar and Bass and a pad from Bitword Expanse. Also harmonics and harmonic chords from Acoustic Legends.I'm considering a remix featuring the metal percussion a bit more. After mixing and then reading the listing again, I think in might be a bit too piano and string heavy for the listing. Thanks for listening!Mazz

Very cool piece RLD. Very intense. Great percussion. Nice choice of instruments. Not sure if it's light and playful as the listing mentions but I'm not sure if mine is either!Good work!Mazz

Mazz....i really enjoyed the listen....sorry I'm unqualified to comment much....I found the Newman pieces darker in vibe, than the listing mentions...great piece...RLD...you might be on the intense side.... also don't compress much (if that's what I'm hearing) keep it light.....with lots of breathing room...great pieces,Vicky

Re: Newman-esque?
Complete re-work of the piece. Tried to lighten up the mood while still maintaining the suspenseful undertone. Took out some of the drums and taikos. Took out the pizz strings in the middle section. Took out the weird lap steel. Brought up the metal percussion in the mix, added glock and celeste doubling the piano melody, and added prepared piano and a few other little things here and there. Also re-worked the ending.Submitting now!Mazzhttp://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_id=114733&stream=true

Since I didn't hear the first one I probably don't appreciate the "complete rework" aspect of this, but I'll have to ask you to quit reworking your stuff... it's hard enough as it is around here.

Re: Newman-esque?
Mazz...you know I spent all my time listening and not composing a single note, for this listing......great work as usual....can I say...I do not like that prominent drum sound at 29 seconds...I'm hearing something that seems to intrude on the vibe for 10 seconds straight...panning? actual sound?...I'm finding it weird that I hate it so much, and I listened 4 times to re-check my reaction...later in the piece it works great....fantastic work...vtbp
