CLASSIC, OLD SCHOOL-STYLE R&B/SOUL SONGS with Male or Female Vocals are needed by an EXCLUSIVE, A-List Music Library. They’re looking for Down-To-Mid-Tempo Songs that could be heard on a playlist with artists like (but not limited to):

“A Change Is Gonna Come” by Sam Cooke:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wEBlaMOmKV4

“Let’s Stay Together” by Al Green:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=COiIC3A0ROM

“What’s Going On” by Marvin Gaye:

“At Last” by Etta James:

“Chain Of Fools” by Aretha Franklin:

Please send Old School-Style R&B/Soul Songs with tons of authentic groove, and a vocal performance and style that just ooze the soulful emotion those classic artists all shared. Simple, super-memorable melodies and powerfully catchy lyrics that harken back to that golden ear will get you to the head of the line with this publisher. Doing your homework and submitting songs with instrument sounds that sound pretty authentic to that time period will be very much appreciated by this company and the music supervisors that use their music! In other words, your recordings should sound slick and modern. Mixes should sound classic as well. This should really be fun, if you think about it!

TAXI Tip: If you happen to have some old recordings from back in the day, they’d be very excited to hear those!

Your submissions should be about 3-4 minutes long. Do NOT copy or rip off the referenced music in any way, shape, or form. Use it only as a general guide for tempo, texture, tone, and overall vibe. Appropriate (old school) sounding Broadcast Quality is needed.

This Library offers an EXCLUSIVE deal, so the material you submit for this pitch CANNOT be signed with any other publishers or catalogs. Sync fees will be split 50/50. The Publisher will get 100% of the Publisher’s share, and you’ll get 100% of the Writer’s share. You must own or control your Master and Copyright to pitch for this opportunity. Please submit one to three Instrumental Cues online or per CD. All submissions will be screened on a Yes/No basis -

Very cool soulful track with lots of interesting development. Congrats also on the vocal delivery!

I really think you've captured the vibe for what you were shooting for.

The reference tracks come from back in the analogue days so the highs are rolled off esp the hi hat and cymbals.

Aretha's track and Etta's may have had more high end content than the others but the Sam Cooke, Al Green tracks are much tamer there.

I thought the bass sounded more forward on your track than the refs as well.

It was a very nice listen, good luck with it.

I'm wondering now if the listing should read: "shouldn't sound slick and modern" instead of "should sound slick and modern"???

I see what you mean. I must admit I didn't read the listing properly  and missed the slick and modern line. It may beg some clarification from admin.

I'm gonna have to assume you're right... everything else points to vintage sound... shoot! Oh well, I will use it elsewhere.

I really think it's a typo to be honest based on the wording around it. But we put our foot in this one brother!

Hi,

a solid piece of work that will find a home. Marcus, your vox drive it, I'm a fan. Early on, got a Teddy Pendergrass and Al Green vibe, then it found its own home. Old Motown soul was driven by bass and harmonies. I thought it worked in that regard. When your dealing with alas of Etta, Aretha, Sam, Al and Marvin that's a high bar to get to. I'm not sure that its a perfect fit based on the alas, but I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Great job gents!

Good luck,

st
