Today's ONOFFON SSP of the Day comes from the Review board over at SoundClick. An artist who has made quite a name for himself over there as a reviewer, Steve Gilmore, has written a review of our song, "Shadowglass", and here it is -Steve Gilmore Reviews: ONOFFON - Shadow Glasshttp://www.soundclick.com/board/viewtopic.php? ... ---------- Artist: OnOffOn Title: Shadow Glass ----------------------------------------- "I know I'm always complaining about there not being enough time in a day to really capture the musical depth and energy in sites like Soundclick and here's a case in point. I've seen Von Babasin from Onoffon around on a great many forums and I've seen some good things written about the band but - until this moment - have not really had the opportunity to hear them. Let's face it, unless one of their tracks gets into my Review list, what chance do I have of hearing it otherwise. Luckily Von and I had a chat at the beginning of the month, and I decided it was time to give these guys a closer look... Onoffon is a three peice outfit coming out of La La Land (that's LA to the rest of the planet) who specialise in Jazz and Jazz Fusion. Yummy. Onoffon are also my favourite kind of indie artist - those who are doing it for themselves, to use a song lyric. Releasing music on the internet since 1996 Onoffon have probably learned all the lessons there is too learn about what we are all doing here so I approached the track expecting much. After all, I do like jazz of all stripes (hence my championing of MP3's Unsigned's Alexis Van Eeckhout and Lloyd Warren) so prior to getting into Shadow Glass I had a couple of listening sessions to some of my favourite jazz artists of the moment. Real glad I did actually because it certainly seemed to sharpen my appreciation of this beautifully performed and produced track. Actually, if the truth were told this track is strong enough to do it to you on first hearing - as many of you are no doubt about to find out. Essentially this is a track built around a beautifully realised and rendered alto flute, and it's a sure bet you won't hear many tracks featuring this beautiful sound. Although it's actually in the New Age genre, it is - to my ears - much more jazz fusion than just about anything else. It's definitely too lively and perky to really qualify as New Age but that's just a smallest moan. After all, if I filled the whole review with flowery compliments it wouldn't be much of a review would it? Bless them for leaving a small hole in their act for me to crawl into for a swift bi** and moan Seriously, this track completely took me by surprise by it's warmth, sheer class performance and faultless production values - not mention that incredibly beautiful alto flute sound. Terrific material and Highly Recommended. Steve Gilmore"We'd like to thank Steve for investing his valuable time and energy in listening and reviewing our music - he works tirelessly providing reviews for SoundClick's huge community of artists and has earned himself the respect he deserves...

ONOFFON's SSP of the Day consists of a few responses to the Steve Gilmore review I've posted above - thanks to Steve, a few more listeners are leaving their thoughts about "Shadowglass" -Nad Sylvan -"It usually takes me 5 seconds to scan my interest for a song when I first hear it. The intro is very crutial. In this case it took 2 seconds only! Fantastic stuff, witty and innovative. I totally agree with Steve on this one. Thumbs up and congrats!"Magnu -"Awesome!! This is a form of music that this listener, sadly, doesn't get to listen to that much nowadays. Used to be a great fan of early Camel and their form of rock-jazz. This particular track reminds me of the work of Pierre Moerlen's Gong. I have also grabbed the other two tracks on offer. Sunshine music!! Boy do I need that in February in England!!!"Pilesar -"damn, stuart, you're right. this stuff does remind me of camel. i can't say about the pierre gong reference though because i've only really listened to the daevid allen one. anyways, great track!"Yeah buddy!!!! The mere mention of Camel in the same sentence with us is an honor! WOW - thanks to these reviewers for their input...

The ONOFFON SSP of the Day is a phone call - yes, after five months from being forwarded by TAXI, an A&R rep from an independent label with international distribution called me the other morning while he was listening to our second CD, which was playing in the background as we spoke. This was the listing from a label looking for a 'jamband' in the vein of Phish and The Grateful Dead.He told me he had just finished listening to our first CD, singling out "Weekend in Montreal" as his favorite track. He also mentioned the title track, "Surrender Now". While he thought our music was very impressive he added that our jazzy influences put us in a league all our own.He verified my address and is sending me a contract in the mail, which I will be carefully scrutinizing once I receive it.Now I know, I really have to see what's on the table before anything comes to pass, nevertheless, it still is a VERY cool opinion of our music, just as all of the other opinions are in this thread... Thanks to TAXI for their participation to make this happen...

The ONOFFON SSP of the Day is a link I stumbled upon - we're now officially in AOL Music -AOL Music: Onoffon: MAINhttp://music.channel.aol.com/artist/main.adp?_pgtyp=pdct&artistid=366009In Yahoo, the link is listed as "Onoffon Biography at AOL Music"... I didn't do anything to get listed there - it's literally taken on a life of its own... Happy Valentine's Day!

Today's ONOFFON SSP of the Day is from the OMD/Internet Radio Station, SongPlanet. They have a system of charts over there determined by airplay your song/artist receives. On their current charts, ONOFFON has the #5 song on their Top 100 Songs with "Ocean's Cry", as well as #22 on their Top 100 Artists - SongPlanet.com's Top 100 Songs http://songplanet.com/listeners/top100.html SongPlanet.com's Top 100 Artists http://songplanet.com/listeners/top100artists.html While "Ocean's Cry" has received the most plays of our songs there, "Surrender Now" and "Wet Legs" continue to receive sporadic airplay also. Thanks to SongPlanet for their continued support of our music...

The ONOFFON SSP of the Day comes from R Cat Communications, host site of the International Online Music Awards. I had a long conversation with their CEO when he called me yesterday on the telephone. He told me of the future plans for his website and his desire to include ONOFFON in that future. They have recently built an addition to their site that highlights what they consider to be the best artists they have reviewed/featured since they've been online. It's called Glow in the Dark and we now have a page over there -Glow in the Dark - OnOffOnhttp://www.rcatcommunications.com/IOM/GlowInTh ... fOn.htmThe info and links they have included will grow as more comes in - but, for now, it's nice of them to include us in the preliminary launch of what's to come - thanks to R Cat for belief in what we're trying to do...

Another SoundClick BB review is today's ONOFFON SSP of the Day - this time, a gentleman by the name of Drew wrote this review of our song, "Mardi Gras" - Drew Reviews OnOffOn: Mardi Grashttp://www.soundclick.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=76503 ------------------------------------------------------------------------"This is a piece of Jazz not something i often review but as a saxophonist and trombonist something i love to play! Very proffesional sound, if thats a real sax im impressed with the playing, if not im impressed with the writing anyway. Going to solo section at two minutes i would say it was a real sax for definate. Beautiful piece if you have any intrest at all give it a listen http://www.soundclick.com/bands/5/onoffonmusic.htm 10 out of 10 Drew"I must say that even when people review us that don't normally listen to or review jazz, they still appreciate our playing, songwriting, and production. What this means - I don't really know, but thanks to Drew for taking the time to listen...
