Our first Halloween song - Ears please

Post by LamarPecorino » Fri May 22, 2020 6:26 pm

Sabrina and I have started mixing our first Halloween song. We would appreciate any feedback on the mix. This is quite a departure from music that we typically would write and produce. It has been a fun adventure. Thanks in advance for listening and commenting!

It is for the following listing:

FUN UPBEAT HALLOWEEN SONGS with Male or Female Vocals are needed by a very successful Music Publisher with a long track record of placements in Film, TV, and Commercials.

They’re looking for Mid-to-Up-Tempo Songs in the general stylistic wheelhouse of the following references they gave us:

“Somebody's Watching Me” by Rockwell

"Monster Mash" by Bobby Pickett

NOTE: The client is open to material from any era, in all (commercially viable) styles and genres. Contemporary Songs, as well as recently recorded/Retro-sounding and Vintage recordings are all fair game for this request!

Please submit original Songs that aim to get listeners into the spirit of Halloween! Your submissions should have genre-appropriate instrumentation and productions. Please be sure to also have well-performed vocal performances if you want to stick out for this request!

LYRIC Tip: Your lyrics should be consistent with typical Halloween or horror-related themes (i.e. werewolves, zombies, witches, etc.). Please avoid the use of specific names, places, brands, and profanity if you’d like to increase your chances of getting your Songs synced! Do NOT copy the referenced artists or Songs in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a general guide for tempo, texture, tone, and overall vibe. Broadcast Quality is needed.

The specific deal points will be handled on a case-by-case basis. If you’re inclined to do an Exclusive deal, please don’t submit material that’s already signed with other libraries or publishers. You must own or control your Masters and Composition to submit to this opportunity. Please submit as many Songs as you’d like, online or per CD. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI. Submissions must be received no later than 11:59 PM (PDT) Thursday, May 28th, 2020. TAXI # S200528HW

I'm hearing a lot of Michael Jackson-ish "Thriller" vibe in the melody and vocal. Is that a good thing or not? I don't know.
Liking the music and the concept - but it strikes me as being too much all-in, all the way: which means the Chorus doesn't pop out or take us "up".
Seems it could benefit from some change-up in the dynamics; so that there's a definite hook & lift at the Chorus.
Good bones - needs some 'trimming' - IMHO.

Hi,
Good song and lyrics.
But I miss the ''scary halloween part''
Maybe some Theremin or ghoulish synth...

My two cents.
Stay safe,
Pierre

Thanks, Peter. It was the first run at a Mix. I may end up farming it out.

Thanks, Pierre. We're looking into different ways of incorporating some spookiness to the track. We're glad that you liked the song and the lyrics.

Here's another version. Different drums and bass. Opened up the arrangement some. Add some SFX to add to the spookiness. Any improvement?

Did you set it to PRIVATE?
If so - you have to post the 'share' link.
