Re: Which Bass?
This is the info my buddy gave me, which I think is also on the website you included in your initial post. But they're located on 1455 W. Hubbard St. Chicago, IL. 60622. Hope that's close to ya'!http://www.bassclubchicago.com/06/main.htmlI-468BTW -- I think he purchased one Lakland (not 2) & one SADOWSKY! Those are good too, but he got 'em from the same place (the bassclub).

Re: Which Bass?
I'm with billg above. If space is a consideration such that you can only have one bass, you'll likely get a lot of mileage from a P bass with P/J pickup configuration.(I've noticed that smaller folks with smaller and/or weaker hands tend to gravitate toward the Jazz Bass) Quality control can be dicey with Fenders these days, (particularly with imported models) so finding a good shop/tech to do an initial set-up is a very good idea.Another consideration is whether you want an active or passive bass. (active basses have an internal preamp which runs on a nine-volt battery or two and allow you to shape your sound with onboard knobs and switches-if you plan to record without an outboard preamp or amp, this gives you many more tonal options- EQ knobs on passive basses are cut-only.For a truly world class bass in your price range, check out Carvin; they build to suit.http://www.carvinguitars.com/
