HELP WITH PROTOOLS!!! simple...

I am brand new to protools..finally figured out how to record self..and how to listen to a piece of music ...and how to record OVER that song..But how does one listen to the music on protools and sing along with it and record it?

Hi Slim,I answered your other post before I saw this one. Seeing as there's more detail in this post I might be able to help. It sounds like you might be recording on the same track every time and wiping over your previous take every time. If so, you shouldn't be. Record the guitar (or whatever) on one track. When that's done, take that track out of record and select another track. Arm that track to record and record voice/whatever. While recording on the second track you should be able to hear the first track playing back at the same time.Hope that helps!!

Hey thats real imaginative and rather humorous, but I dont think it really helps a great deal.Slim, dont worry, there are people in this world that DO like to help. Check out the protools forum duc.digidesign.com and homerecording.comI don't know what the big deal is about a simple answer:Export:File->export.You get options. Choose:.wav, 16bit, 44,100Hz (44.1kHz), Stereo Interleaved. This is CD quality.Save your file to a folder you can find again. I have a folder called 'Exports' on my 'C:' drive in My Computer.Email Attachment:(presuming Outlook is your email program)Make a new email, complete with address and message. On the 'Insert' menu, choose 'File Attachment'. Find the file you exported and that's OK. You'r recipient can simply click the attachment and it will open in WMP or iTunes or whatever they use.Tip:The .wav file is enormous, because it is raw data, uncompressed. MP3 is a compression technique that can make the file up to 20 times smaller!! Your Protools might not let you export MP3's, because Digidesign are hold-outs. Alway's have been. So you will need to find a software that can convert the .wav files to MP3's. I think Windows Media Player can do it, but I don't trust it, so have never tried. I like Cool Edit Pro 2, but that was a 2002 technology, and has been replaced by Adobe's Audition. Search on Download.com to find a free MP3 converter.Oh, and RTFM . . . Pro Tools has an MP3 exporting option, but you have to buy it for $30 (at least that's what it was last time I looked).Just to clarify what Anthony says (and knows, but I think it may be easy to misinterpret): 16-bit uncompressed files are 10MB per stereo minute, but they're the way the audio is supposed to sound. MP3s are great for many things, such as sending songs by email or listening in the car (where you can't tell the difference), but they don't sound as good as the real thing. Sometimes you can't really tell the difference, other times you really can.There's no free breakfast.

I had purchased the MP3 OPTION which was $19.95 ..Is this what your are talking about ?It is confusing because they also offer for the same price an MP3 EXPORT download.
