Much shorter story: my former Sweetwater rep (they call 'em sales engineers) is now working in A&R at a Nashville label. They do say it's a relationship business. One more from the "You Never Know" file: My ex guitar teacher used to brag on how he grew up with "Dangerous" Dan Toler, and I always just sorta assumed he was exaggerating a bit, even though he had all the Allman Bros stuff down cold, 'til the day I walked in his house and heard Gregg's unmistakable voice on his answering machine.

great stories guys!!I have one too, I was working on a song and posted it on a songwriting forum and the phrasing was off cause the meter didn't match and a very nice lady said she'd take a look at it so I offered her a co write and she fixed it! Next day she says her friend who's a newer country singer with major major label interest loves it and will cut it this year and its going to be a single either waySo I'd just like to say what everyone else is saying, don't give up, you just need one foot in the door and your songs will take you the rest of the way

Very encouraging posts, everyone!! Love hearing these stories, especially the ones about the older producers, singers, etc........I think music might be the last bastion of good storytellin' and history....and not those ol' fishin' stories either, the real thing. Thanks so much.

I think I've learned more about songwriting in this thread than any other thread associated with Taxi thus far. This has been mindblowing. Good stuff guys.Andy

This has been more Nashville focused but from what im learning, all these things can apply no matter where you are pitching your music.Things ive picked up lately are:No matter how good your material is you still have to know people. Its not who you know, Its who knows you. Networking and self promotion are all important. Meet people, co-write, that person you co-write with might know someone that knows someone etc.M~

Matt,I definitely haven't given up. If anything, I'm getting down-right serious. I am going to NSAI's Spring Training. I'm so excited, Jeffery Steele is going to be there. He has written most of my favorite current country tunes.Remember how you guys were talking about how rock is creeping more and more into country music? Check out this song. www.andrewscottwills.com/ats.mp3Andy

Yes, it's mine. Thanks Cam. I wrote it a while back. Mike Kelley sang that demo, didn't he sing your song "Rather Be Lucky"? The stuff I like by Steele is like "Speed" and "Help Somebody" and stuff like that.I pitched it to the "young Aussie listing." I found who the guy is. Here's his page. Do you think it matches his style? http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fu ... D=92596754
