'Sexist' lyrics

Post by jchitty » Fri Aug 31, 2007 2:32 am

Okay, I'm not a 'feminazi', (just kidding) but I think it's humorous to hear some songs from years ago which show how attititudes toward women have changed over the years. Here's a funny lyric from the song "I'd Be Long Gone." I think that was the title."Well every woman should try to beWhatever her man wants her to be"Hubby heard that one the other day and remarked, 'yeah, and we get a knock on the noggin if we demanded that of women today.'Anyone got any similar lyrics?

Quote:Stand By Yer Man. I have absolutely no way of adequately expressing my feelings about that song, chits. Yep, that's gotta be right up there. Your smilies expressed what you think of the tune, pretty adequately. I don't actually want the smilies to include any kind of scratch n sniff options. Lyle Lovett's version of the tune had something new and special. Although, Standing by your Man, does seem to be a lost concept these days. Guys are usually pretty predictable, dumb, think about sex, don't wanna talk, watch sports... yada yada. If you can put up with that, without trying to smarten him up, or change him, relationships can last a long time. Every woman gets to draw her own line in the sand... you can't throw anything at me, cause I've jumped off the soapbox, and I'm runnin' run steve run

Quote:Stand By Yer Man. I have absolutely no way of adequately expressing my feelings about that song, chits. Don't get me wrong, I love Tammy Wynette.....they just don't make 'em like her anymore....old time, soulful country. I was sad to see her pass on. I've always loved "Stand By Your Man" simply because it's a classic, but it certainly didn't do much to further women's causes, hehe. And it may have even contributed to the 'little woman' getting abuse 'coz afterall, 'he's just a man.'Maybe we could talk about "Loretty.' Now those are some good songs, if you want tough women role models from the past....... songs like, "The Pill", and "Don't Come Home a Drinkin' With Loving On Your Mind." "Fist City' just plain cracks me up. Loretta was supposedly the first feminist country singer, although now, she's a staunch Repub, hehe.I'm kind of apolitical as I grow older....I just look at all this from a humorous standpoint. Being a 'Suthern' girl like you, my roles models are Emmy Lou Harris, Nanci Griffith (God, I love her stuff) and Linda Ronstadt....and of course, some Joni thrown in there. And then there is Tanya Tucker....she's one of my faves too.

As an aside, I saw that ddusty had a cat named "Dusty" on the other thread, and my cat's name was "Rusty' and lived to be 18, so yes, cats are the coolest things. And YOD, I absolutely love Kinky Friedman, and my politics run on the liberal side (when I'm not apolitical)....but Kinky is such a character, you can't help but like him on many levels, politically correct or not.
