Dreaming of the day I can quit my day job...

Post by girasoledonna » Sat Nov 22, 2008 6:54 pm

Hey all,Well its another cold night here in Jersey, with frost on my window panes and my breath crystallizing in the night air. It's quite a shock to my system to have come from 10 days in L.A. where it was 85 degrees to it snowing here in Jerz.Tonight I'm going to sleep, to dream of the day I can quit my day job. And by that I mean, my endless streams of shitty day jobs that always pay nothing and take up way too much of my time. Over the years, let's see.... I've been a waitress, done catering, played nursing homes, behavioral health centers, masses, weddings, funerals, I've worked at fast food joints, made ID badges for guard-a-kid, taught 4th grade, taught music, cut grass, cleaned houses, worked at an amusement park, ice cream store, mortgage loan company, construction company, handed out flyers, secret shopped, and oh yea, I now work a day care center changing diapers and cleaning up vomit. But you know what? These are the sacrifices we make as artists, and these are the building blocks on which we forge the foundation of our dreams - on the sweat and hard work. One day, I just know I'll be able to walk in and say with a big smile on my face "I quit". And it will mean that I quit it ALL, because I am at last a full-time professional artist.I am on my way, and am now composing for a very big production company which pitches music to a very well-known day-time talk show!! I am writing more than ever, re-working and refining my craft and teaching myself a new instrument! So tonight I raise my glass of wine to all of US. To all of us who work jobs we hate to leave time for the passion we love. To all of us who push for our love, who fight for our dreams, and who refuse to give up. To all of us who don't need to have hope, for we KNOW we will make it happen. Here's to the day we quit our day jobs!!!Much Love,Anj

great post Anj! And that day will come. Congrats again on that job writing for the unspoken show (lol), I'll bet you can parlay that experience into being a go-to composer for libraries and publishers. Great thing to have on your resume, and good experience in dealing with the reality of composing. cheersHummin'bird
