Hard Rock/Metal tunage...

Post by wta » Fri Aug 21, 2009 1:20 pm

I'm working on a new album a la Alter Bridge/Audioslave/Metallica and with that said the following is a demo of an idea that I'm wondering if its commercial enough... No lyric yet just structure and tones at this point... Big question is "Is this flavor/style commercial enough?"www.williamthomasanderson.com/w2/nb_song_1.mp3 Thanks for your insight in advance...

hi WTA... Yes... I'm pretty sure this flavor/style can be commercial enough... but I think the other important question is... how the end product may sound/ be delivered?Vocals of course are very crucial... they can either take the song up the next level or completely destroy it...Adding some modern sounding guitar or synth fx might help commercialize it a little more...Drum sound needs to change especially the snares... however this is just a demo... so, looking forward to hear a more polished version...I think this piece is on the right track commercially... just needs some icing on the cake...Metal!!!-Kel

Thanks for the listen Kel. THis is 100% demo at this point, I'm new with this direction, be more alternative for the most part but am really feeling this new direction. Yup vocals will be a big issue and I've been working hard honing my rock chops so we'll see how they translate in the direction. Ya the drums need a ton of work tonally and will be diving into that for sure. The guitar tones are from my POD XT Live and are a bit sterile but I've got my new Mesa 50 Cal+ (vintage 80's model) that I'll be using along with my Les Paul and I''m thinking of trying my Gretch 5120 to add a different flavor to things. I'm a big Cult fan as well and Billy Duffy used a Falcon for a lot of their tracks. We'll see. I've started working with a local guitarist/shredder who got chops like nobodies business so we'll so how that works out. By the way which Victoria are you at?!

Ya that solo was a blast to work on, I used my Gretch 5120 through my POD XT Live, I found a decent amp model and effect setup. Vocals YA, gotta wait but I'll get some work on those drums. Anything you might suggest I could listen too for reference on utube or the like let me know if you get any ideas... Looks like its you and me on this one! ;-) wta

For drums, without a live drummer I highly recommend Addictive Drums... otherwise, get a real kick ass drummer & top end mics to track...Yes, U & me & the rest of them Metalheads!! Muahahahahahahahah!!!K

Muahahahahahaha!!! Rock till ya drop!!! I've got Groove Agent 3 at this point and there a ton of stuff I haven't tried so I'll see about raising the drums up a few amps and I'll check out Addictive Drums as well...
