Take a listen

Post by pmattax » Thu Jan 15, 2009 9:18 am

Hi everybody. What you're doing is great. I just started at this. Would you please take a listen and give me a thoughtful critique. Am I doing well or just pissin' in the wind? Thanks Pete Mattaxhttp://www.taxi.com/pmattax

Hey There Pete, I listened to parts of all of your tracks . . . very cool! I have no doubt that you are NOT pissing in the wind. The problem is gonna be finding the right genre for these (and this is the problem everyone here has). I'm sure someone here that's more familiar with what you're doing will chime in . . . again, I really like it!

Hey, Pete. Welcome.I surveyed the stuff on your page and it certainly displays skill. I noticed film/tv/video games in your profile. Maybe a good way to proceed is to look at the listings and think about which current ones would be a fit for your stuff. One big thing around here is to very carefully read the listing and pay strict attention to any examples cited. Ive been nailed many times for not doing so...the dreaded "doesn't fit this listing".So, take a look, match up listing and music, then post to "peer-to-peer" with a copy of the listing and a link to the tune. You'll get great, honest feedback from this group.

Hi Pete!Your stuff flows nicely...what goals do you have for it?Creating instrumental stuff for film/TV is a good fit for Taxi. So if your plan is to submit to the listings for instrumental requests, you're in the right spot! The first thing I would think about is getting your songs louder. Look for ways to boost the level before uploading to the Taxi host. Mixing to -1dB before encoding to the MP3 isn't a bad place to start.Welcome aboard!

Hi Pete! I had a listen to your tunes... are you a classical musician? I hear Bach influence there! Your music is lovely and they sound like they would be a good fit for games, but the sounds you are using are just a little dated. I bet your music would sound brilliant with some good orchestral samples. Are you using a workstation? Georgie

Definitely heard some talent in these posts, Pete. Agree with the above comments concerning quality of the samples. On "Knock on Wood," I heard some non-standard panning (drums mostly right? bass left?)Have you considered music for games?Vince
