Re: "Gritty" and "Down and Dirty" help
this definitely gets the job done. only suggestions I can think of: 1) the lead gets a little lost in the first 'chorus' (or break-bridge)2) you might repeat the stops at the end, to tie it all together and make the abrupt ending sound more naturalnice one, gw

Cool about the mastering process, I work it similarly, but lately I've been using the Ozone 3 plugin which is pretty cool.

Re: "Gritty" and "Down and Dirty" help
hey - barry is it? or blue? I used to be blue. now I'm a lover and I'm pink. with dots. don't like polka tho, my feet get fumbly.anyway ... I really should put down the crack pipe shouldn't I? but cj's are generally just freaks of nature and need medicating - or a way to figure out how to twitter when they are just blathering on.so ... gritty .... what the hell does that mean? to me it means a bit of a narrow frequency on the overall mastering ... or maybe it means a balls to the wall arrangement with no regard for a smooth touch, attention to sweet melody and pretty much a badass attitude.if the latter is the case, you found it.the immediate call and answer from the guitar to the band and the way it just rocks on through as if the entire band is just dashing around the stage saying FU I CAN turn up to 11 and you can't touch me and I can bang my head and have my hair moving around my me at half time to the beat and I had your girlfriend on the hood of my car and that was one good hit, who'd you buy that blow from and when do they bring us the shots of tequila and why does it never rain in east LA in the summertime is just about as gritty as you can get.and that is what the song says to me.good damn playing dude. rock on. hope the listing comes through for you.cj (oops ... glad to meet you .... I'm a lover, not a cynic)
Gave up guilt when I left the ol' school girl uniform behind. You know, cute little skirts and knee socks, nuns and rulers and all that.

Sounds like it's a really finished product without a question. I could see it being played on one of those episodes of That 70's Show ( I mean it as a compliment dude, don't verbally slap me!lol )Do you like pro-tools? Ever used wave pad master edition? I've seen, used both but pro tools i believe takes a bunch of work to get comfortable with. I don't put out finished products though so it's not a demand on me. Whaddayathink?Keep it up, we'll be hearing it on tv or in a film one day i'd bet.Doc

Hey Anne... thanks for "stopping by" and saying hello It was great getting to meet you at the Rally.cj... nice to meet you too... you can call me Barry, or you can call me Blue, or you can call me Big Blue, or you can call me Big Blue Barry, or heck, if you feel like it, you can call me Triple B, take your pick Thanks for your comments. That has to be the most descriptive response I've ever gotten about a song. I had no idea my song could say that much! Doc... I take that as a compliment, I really like That 70's Show. I LOVE Pro Tools. I agree, there is a bit of a learning curve, but I've enjoyed it every step of the way. I'm not familiar with wave pad at all. But for being able to take a song from creation to tracking to mixing to mastering, Pro Tools is great. Also, I just uploaded my first attempt at a real mix for the song tonight at 11pm Central Time.- Big Blue

BB,Great stuff. I'm working on one for this listing, too. I'll have to rush this weekend to get 'er done, tho.Two thoughts on yours... add some "air" to the break. The background is too silent. There'd be some left-over sizzle on a cymbal and maybe some snare buzz and amp hiss. And on the snare drum -- I haven't tried it -- but I've heard talk of reamping with some overdrive to distort it a bit.

Re: "Gritty" and "Down and Dirty" help
Blue!Checked out the master.... much better than the worktape (go figure)!!The lead gets a little lost for me in the mix -- it's not bad, just noticeable... it might be in part to the effects you have on it. I think I hear a small delay and a verb, which is causing some mushiness. It could also be that the lead is having to compete in the same frequency range as the rhythm guits, and gets lost in the loudness. If you're up for a little experimenting, you might want to try a drier approach (for the lead) and EQ the rhythms a bit in the midrange to carve out some space. This thing is really good IMO... just some minor tweaking should make it perfect.

Re: "Gritty" and "Down and Dirty" help
jazzstan... thanks! I think I forgot to EQ my overheads and that should hopefully add some "air" back into it. I'll also need to check my Guitar Rig plug-in and see if it's using a noise gate, I'm betting it is, on the particular patch I used. I ended up sending my snare drum to another aux channel and compressed the crap out of it then brought it up in the mix alongside the normal snare to fatten it up some.zoom... thanks man! Yep, I'm pretty sure there is some verbage going on in the lead guitar. I did some EQ'ing in the lower frequency on the guitar tracks but I don't think I did much in the mids. I'll have to give your EQ tweaks a try!- Big Blue
