A few more Acoustic Tracks (1 Minute each)

Post by wta » Mon Oct 27, 2008 6:53 pm

I've been inspired to develop an acoustic guitar section to my catalog and so this in number #2 in my efforts. Keepin'em to 1 minute works. Please feel free to comment on production and progression and if someone tells me my chorus needs to be less like my verse I'm going to have a caniption... Ah what the heck do I know my shoes never match my purse! www.williamthomasanderson.com/w2/WA_1.mp3 '-) wta

I like the flavour of the guitar. I didn't hear a lot of development but often for instrumental work it's more about mood. I'm no expert at mic-ing a guitar, but it seems like the fretting sometimes overshadows the notes you're playing. If you're shooting for contemplative/reflective, I'd slow it down a little. Definitely has potential IMO. Enjoyed it.

Ya, thats one of the downfalls to recording acoustic music, the noise your hearing is the skin from my fingers as I change chords, that friction on the strings is almost impossible to avoid on a steel string guitar. The advice I was given was to develop simple progressions and repeat them once or twice, it's tricky to work in 1 minute bits, new to me brain... '-) wta

Hey William,A little bit of fret noise is no problem, but the noise I was hearing almost sounds like some sort of percussion instrument. Are you by chance running a lot of compression on the guitar (or the mic you're recording it with)?Otherwise, it seems like a nice, simple mood piece.Cam

Na, not alot no but there is some room to pull back though. Ya, I'll give it a try and see what comes out. This is a minor scale decent from B and its bar chorded all the way down... Cheers cam... '-) wta

It sounds to my ears like you cut and pasted three times, William. You might try to play the whole thing through and get some nuances. There is a spray called finger ease that might help the fret noise. HTH, Wig

I liked it. It has a unique flavor. The fret noise is no problem with me - add character. Sounds like a short little spot you'd hear on NPR. Or maybe a tight spot in the The Three Amigos.Kitz

LOL! Fix-a-flat... Now thats funny! I'll have a relook at the compression and that will solve our issue for sure, at least to a noticalbe degree, should have that up in the next few hours... Y'all are the best!

wta,Compression will exacerbate the finger noise issue for sure. Try to get a great sound without compression if at all possible. For acoustic music, particularly solo guitar, compression shouldn't be necessary or very light if at all. Let the natural sound of the instrument come through. It'll be a breath of fresh air in this world of slamming square wave "music"!!Mazz
