High Octane and Low Octane
My song ''Sensible Shoes'' got forwarded for the ''High Octane'' listing and returned for ''Contemporary Blues'' listing ....Weird, I thought I was right on for the blues listing and not so sure for the High Octane...Man I'll never get how things will turn out here !! I'm happy but quite disappointed too because both screeners had great comments but the blues screener pointed out guitar tuning issues...Am I becoming deaf ? Because I don't hear it...I tune and tune and retune when recording almost obsessively ...Can't get forwarded everytime...But this one's tuff to swallow. ( P.S. this song is already signed with 2 libraries so tuning issue couldn't have been too bad or apparent )here's the tune if you're curious to hear:http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... eam=1Salut !MG

mike,I think I've heard this one before. Don't know what the screener heard, but as far as tuning is concerned, I hear nothin'. Sounds in tune ta' me. I'm listening on a laptop with crappy speakers, so I really can't get the full affect. But I hear nothin'. Maybe the screener's phones were outta' wack!ibanez468BTW - - Congrats on your forward!

I'm with ya Mike. Great sounding track..like you I would expect a shoe in to the contemporary blues and a maybe to high octane. But hey a forward is a forward by any other name. Great guitar playing and horns. I didn't hear the out of tune guitar though.best of luckDerek

Hey Mike,Wow....I do not understand why that was returned for blues?? Sounds great to me, man..I had a return for blues, also...thought I would post, so we can hopefully take from it.http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... stream=1"a cool little instrumental and some good playing. the tune is ok, but i do feel that it is just a bit generic. the melody feels a bit tired here and not special enough to sustain an instrumental. i do like the clean guitar tone and the tasteful playing. the rhythm section could use a bit more firepower to help keep the momentum up. i am returning this because although i do like it i think it is not quite as strong as it would need to be for this listing. Yeah man! You're right, this one is hard to swallow. And where I'm extremely shocked is that thing about the guitar tuning. This is not a subjective matter, it's measurable and it's NOT THE OPINION OF ONE PERSON... It's objective. I don't accept that at all and I can tell everybody, because I record tons of Mike's tracks and every time we cut guitar tracks, we talk about tuning and check it every 2 or 3 takes. Mike is one of the most professionnal musicians I know after at least 25 years of recording hundred of musicians, he's a perfectionnist and he works really hard to give the best he can every time. I honestly think that it's insulting him to tell him his guitar is not tuned. Come on...I will need many minutes (hours to cool down!!!)Jean Custeau / bleuciel@mail.com

Mike...this is such a COOL funky tune!! I'm totally seeing Travolta in Pulp Fiction when I listen to it! That kind of guitar just gets me going...so cool!!! I'm actually surprised too..this is electronic blues all day!! Good stuff man!!

Hey Mike, I'm with you: this sounds like a quality blues tune, but not really high-octane. Oh well, at least it was forwarded for one. Regarding the tuning thing, I had a screener complain of tuning once on a midi generated melody, which sounded right on target to me, so sometimes it does make you wonder. Hope you get a call/email on this one--

Re: High Octane and Low Octane
Thank you all for your comments...I'm touched and I really appreciate them all...Thanks for taking a minute to listen and confirming that I'm not nuts !! first for the blues tune not being forwarded for the blues listing and 2nd and most important to me ...The guitar tuning factor....As Jean pointed out I'm a bit of a perfectionist...He should know we've been working together for 10+ years and I drive him crazy sometimes with my obsessive recording habits ...But that's also why he uses me to produce his stuff ! LOL ! It might sound a bit ungrateful to complain about a return on a Forward thread but I had to speak my mind and heart here...I am very grateful for the 37 tunes signed in less than a year...But when a song you believe in and really think is on target gets returned, it sucks ...Anyway isn't that what these threads are for ??I guess I've gotten accustomed to getting forwarded 1 time out of 2 for the past year and these latest returns are like getting beat up by a football team...Have no fear I've been taking an ass kicking for the past 20 years...The victories outweigh the defeats and I'll pick myself up, wipe the dirt off and start all over again ! Thanks for the support ! Mike
