Re: Smile / Turn Into Light
Hey Michael,The Chorus melody on this one is fantastic! I'm not a big fan of the delays on the vocal in the verse though. I dig what you were going for, but it's a bit much and distracting from what is a good melody in the verse.I was just too preoccupied by the effect to drink in the meaning of the verse lyrics so you lost me emotionally.Still when that chorus hit you had my attention again! It dovetails nicely into the bridge and then back out again. This song is actually better than Smile IMO, but Smile has all the emotion and vibe going for it in spades. If you can bring that verse back into a more subtle and intimate setting you'll have a real winner. The drum programming is pretty good on this one, but the groove stays a little stagnant. This one would probably benefit from some real drums played by a great drummer. I'll PM you to discuss that offline.Great tune Michael!Best,Cisco

Good enough song for listings, no doubt, but I´ve heard more catchy songs from you earlier.Productionwise, clear it up - its muddy. Allthough its maybe just a sketch demo; try to keep it clearer speaking frequence separations; and viola - you have a better demo without more work at all.Keep up the good work.Edit: Didnt see the version 2, so listening now. Its more separated, with a clearer vocal. And the elguitar in the chorus is sweet. If it was there earlier I didnt hear it.Much better production this time. The piano trill is too repetetive imo.Again; keep it up.

Great song...Definitely a Coldplay/Radiohead sort of vibe. Production is good, if anything I might simplifiy those drums a little...they throw off the groove when they get busy...just my opinion though... Just modifying this post...All my comments were for the first version of Smile...I'm listening to the second one now...sounds good, the drums are much better, although I might miss the slow, languid vibe of the original...I love the lush vocal treament on both of these versions, well done.

Quote:This is a downtempo tune.No it aint, the choruses run 140 bpm here on my end. But its a good one.I like it.Did you start it in 70 bpm on the sequencer, but ended up doubling? The way the bass is played outside the chorus also indicates a pumpin 140 bpm. And - allthough I aint sure - I think I like it in this uptempo groove.Productionwise hint; the only thing I can come up with is more powerchords in choruses, less strumming (imo)Listened to v3.As allways, good stuff coming from your end; do you pitch these outside taxi? To local and national bands?

Re: Smile / Turn Into Light
Smile V3Go Sens.Merry Christmas Mike,You and another cat (maybe a drummer) to bounce with could get so awesome, so quickly. All 3 versions are really wicked, but there's something about the drums in all 3 versions that seems not quite on target. But I think you know any publishing company/library would be foolish to pass up on your unbelievable body of work already created. And I know your picking up steam...I guess I think the tune gets too far down. A little predictable, without the exponential dynamics growth, that a goth(y) tune could explode with. Go BIG. This tune warrants a big ass sound. The tempo might not need to be this slow, tho its obviously a perfect vibe the way it is. If the tempo was faster, you could have a bona fide hit song arrangement on your hands. Keep both versions. Make dozens more variations. It's really a great piece you can do a lot of different things with! I like the V 3 drum concept the most, but it still seems a separate from the track somehow, like it's an overdub done by someone who wasn't sure what they should do... Now I think it'll get forwarded to any Pop listing looking for this kind of subtle yearning vibe, but with another big arrangement of it, and a good once over the lyrics, this could potentially be a HIT Song, man. Imagine that...

COOL! Only listened to the link in your first post, so ... I am not sure what you've done since then. Really liked the mood. Love has claimed another smile ... is a very cool line. Everything is good for me .. maybe you could try adding another section, just to vary the mood slightly, maybe a bridge or a longer instrumental bridge, but as it is, I like it alot. Go for a film/tv library with it.Dean
