John, I would have reviewed your song, but I can't access TAXI links. If you have another link with the song on it, post it up, and I'll give you my thoughts.

Re: All Dressed Up ( 1st cut demo )
Okay, I could access this link: First off, this song KICKS ASS! I'm actually going to listen to it again...that's how much I liked it. Lest you think I'm not being honest, I don't care for one of your other songs, but I think you have a winner with this one......I like the pace of it. It's very catchy....it's the stuff Nashville likes. Now as much as I like it....I have a problem with some of the lyrics. I think you could get to the hook "All Dressed Up" a little faster. I'd eliminate the line "I opened up my little black book" followed by the next four lines....I don't think you really need those lines, but that's just my personal opinion. This would mean that the first eight lines in your first verse could just be used....that would make the song a little more compact and tight. In my opinion, you have enough lines even though you might not think you have. Then after those eight lines, just start with your chorus. That being said, I notice you also have the second verse done this way....those extra lines starting with "Nothing's going on at Hank's Bar and Grill.....so I have my reservations about leaving those lines out to create a perfect structure....I don't know how to advise you on that. And yes, your third verse is done that way as well. And you may feel you need those lines to tell the whole story.....they are really good lyrics, and you obviously know how to create clever lines, but maybe you should take the best and prune down just a little. Also, the line about 'two asses' might not go over well with the women folk. Women are sensitive about their weight sometimes, and let's face it, you gotta market your song to women 'coz they are the biggest demographic of buyers. Now on the production side....I think you did a pretty good job here....the only problem I had were the horns....they sounded a bit cheesy. I'm sure they are professional horn players, but they didn't pull it off in this case. Your fiddle sounded good though. I'd find a way to work on the horns.Oddly enough though, the song still rocks to me. I listen to a lot of country, and I could see something like this being played in Southern dance bars...it has really great potential.I'm no authority...I always stress this...I've only gotten one foward, but I do have a good feel for country since I listen to a lot of it.Good job, John. Just needs a bit more work.

Oops, you sure did say this was a rough demo, apologies there. So in that case, when you do get the horns and everything set in place, I think this will be a really great song....post the finished product when you can. As far as the 'asses' OR 'molasses' line, well, I'll leave that up to you. I'm still for pruning some of the other lines, although I couldn't tell you which ones to sack....they're clever lines. Anyway, I gotta sign off and go the grocery store.....I owe some folks a PM or two, but I'll get back with everyone ASAP.
