Very nice, Mazz. Simple but interesting. I get a kick out of hearing all the different interpretations when the listing calls for just one song.Here's my version. Heh heh -- my tin whistle is pitched in D, so that's the key I wrote the accompaniment in. But when I tried to play the melody, it wouldn't hit both the low B and the high F# - so I had to find the next closest key and fudge the C naturals. I still wince at them!

Mazz and Kelysian,Nice job! I'm not sure which I like better. Both versions are great, and I bet both get forwarded.I submitted to this listing as well. Here's my version, which is yet another very different interpretation of the same song:http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... m=trueMine is in the key of D, which seemed better for the violin. I think I may have miked the violin too closely though, which made the rosin sound more pronounced than usual. Maybe I'm being too anal, but it kind of bothers me. I don't know if it bothers anyone else, but I wish I had moved the mic back just a little bit more, now. Normally I like the rosin-y sound, so I don't know why I don't like it on this recording...And, maybe it's because it's 3:30 in the morning where I am right now.

Kathleen and John... nice jobs on both. For Kathleen... is there ANYTHING that "fife" can't do? Kevin... At this stage of my game, I don't really miss not having a full-blown live orchestra when I'm doing film stuff. It's not Hollywood for me (yet ). I can do a pretty convincing job of emulation, especially when it's part of a film and the audience has other sound plus the visuals to pay attention to. But having a violin player like that... WOW! These solo instrument things is where it really makes a difference.I'm guessing this is the same gal that played on the first track you posted here? Anyway, really nice and SOOOOO expressive.Dave

Mazz, Kathleen and Kevin,Wow, such a variety! Each one has their own mood too, which is interesting since Danny Boy is clearly a longing/sad type song. Well done, all of you. I love the chord progressions all y'all used.I wish I had more time to review songs.......lately I have about enough time to check my PMs, post something and then I have to go. Glad I had time today. Really lovely.

Kevin - really nice as well. Is the solo violin (and harmony) the only live instrument?Interesting that we both used some of the same little ornaments at the same points. Your notation, or your violinist's interpretation?

Kevin,Very nice version! Your arrangement captures the essence of the song, IMO. The live violin really adds a great touch, warmth and emotion.Production-wise, I think that yes, you could have pulled back a bit more from the violin with the mic but the track is very good so if you wanted to just do an EQ notch at the "rosin" frequency, that would be fine. If you do it right, it won't take anything away from the track at all.One more thing since I have my mixer hat on right now: The background strings sound like they are the same distance from the listener as the solo violin and I'd like to hear them set back a little bit with a little more room or air around them. I think it would make the track breathe a bit more and would help accentuate the solo violin a bit more. Everything just felt a little "in your face" for the type of piece.This is just minor detailing from my taste only and has no reflection on your arrangement which is very nice. I hope we all get forwarded (and signed and paid!!!!) on this one!Mazz
