To expand on gitarrero's response, a graphical representation of a high-pass or low-pass filter (a.k.a. equalizer or EQ) looks like a straight line that bends downward on one end, where the frequencies begin to "roll off" until they're inaudible. The strength of the filter (aka "slope"), measured in decibels per octave ("dB/oct"; usually multiples of 6), determines how sharply the frequencies roll off - and therefore the angle, or steepness, of the roll-off curve. Here's a graphical representation of a low-pass filter (it only lets the low frequencies pass through):http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Butt ... sponse.png <---[copy and paste this whole link, up to and including the ".png" extension, into your browser...dang TAXI forum weirdness. ]A similar type of filter is a "shelf" or "shelving" filter. A shelving filter reduces all frequencies below ("low shelf") or above ("hi shelf") a certain frequency by a certain amount, but all those frequencies are affected to the same degree. Correspondingly, a shelving EQ looks like a straight line with a short angle followed by another straight line...hence the name. The terms "EQ" or (equalizer) and "filter" can be used interchangeably, but more often "filter" is used to describe high-pass & low pass types since they remove, or filter out, all frequencies above or below a specific point. The term "EQ" is more commonly used to describe graphic or parametric types that only remove some frequencies. For more info on different types of filter and EQ's, check this out:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EqualizationAndre
