Quote:Certainly none of the screeners ever checked those shows for music content.Just a note... for information purposes - the screeners do not write the description of the music required - the listing party does.

Re: Dramatic Instrumentals
Quote:Quote: That means Taxi has no leeway in screening, that they will forward only the best composed & produced instrumentals for this opportunity. If that is the case then none of them should have been forwarded. If we wanted to we could all pick those compositions apart.I don't hear any diference in the forwards and the returns. A composer like Mazz ought not be returned at all on something like this. He clearly knows what he is doing. There has to be info that Taxi did not give us, or the music supervisor screened them. And yes, congratulations to all who got through.Hi - I am not arguing with you. I am trying to give you some information. This was just one listing, one opportunty. I get returns all the time (3 this week), and I try not spend any energy on them. I try not to be emotionally attached to my music. Great music gets returned all the time because it doesn't fit the needs of the listing (and yes, all available information on the requirements of the client is detailed in the listing you receive). You can be forwarded for one listing and returned for another. It's just a fact of life. Taxi screens for every listing unless the listing specifically says otherwise. [Edited] You may think the screeners were wrong not to forward [jamkern's] pieces, IMHO [the] pieces didn't quite hit the mark -- they are great, but not low key intensity, but I absolutely know squat. But, if you have a complaint or require further information about Taxi's screening methods, then please call Taxi customer service (1-800-458-2111), as the people on this forum are songwriters like you, struggling with the same issues. respectfully,Hummin'birdEDIT -- these threads are a good read:Taxi Land - Dave - Part Ihttp://taxi.proboards27.com/index.cgi?bo....read=1185818579Taxi Land - Dave - Part 2http://taxi.proboards27.com/index.cgi?bo....read=1186789715Taxi Land - Dave - Part 3http://taxi.proboards27.com/index.cgi?bo....read=1188921401Taxi Land - Screener Queries - Horacehttp://taxi.proboards27.com/index.cgi?bo....read=1185748342

Re: Dramatic Instrumentals
Mine didn't get forwarded and certainly I can see why.....it simply didn't hit the key points they asked for. Absolutely, we can help ourselves by researching what we can to help us narrow the writing focus. It's smart and cuts our time and rejections by a lot, I'll bet (don't have numbers but honestly, mazz had a great point about finding and listening to samples of things first). I don't mind not getting forwarded for it, it was my mistake for not paying as much attention to the wording as I should've.

Quote: Hi - I am not arguing with you. I am trying to give you some information. Yes, but you are giving me information I already know.I did not get returned. I am complaning about the ones that did on this post.I think it is stupid. And I think there is something more going on than hitting the mark because clearly the ones that got returned in this post were no better than what got forwarded. No one has disagreed with that and we all here know what we are doing and are just as capable of screening music as the taxi screener. And Taxi just dodges the issue when you call them.So I post my complaint here in writing. At least it is a record of it that a phone call can't provide.

Quote: clearly the ones that got returned in this post were no better than what got forwarded.I disagree. The returned music is great, but IMHO not on target for the listing. Quote:but you are giving me information I already know....you made some comments that lead me to believe that you didn't know what you say you know, so I apologize for thinking you didn't know... just like to share what I think I know, but I know very little, really

At least it is a record of it that a phone call can't provide.I don't understand...what else would be going on? Some kind of conspiracy? I don't have time to listen to all the tracks posted here, but most of the rejected ones I heard were quite obviously off target. Mostly WAY too intense and dramatic, nothing like "sustaining a low level of tension" as requested in this listing. Others were not pro sounding enough for this listing which asks Taxi to be "extra selective".What could Taxi possibly have to gain from rejecting music that's good enough and on target for the listing company? Now, that's not to say the screeners are infallible, sure they make mistakes from time to time, but I didn't hear any rejections here that were dead on target and should've gone in the forward bin. It's competitive out there...Jamkern: your tracks were great but I felt they were quite a bit too intense and hip/modern and rhythm driven for something like DH. Would make great reality TV or news magazine underscore though. What I've found over the years is it's all about targeting your music for the specific listing or company need. They are looking to fill a specific need, hence the listing. They are not looking for "talented composers".matto

Re: Dramatic Instrumentals
It's all good guys- I'm confident it's only a matter of time before Taxi hooks me up with some dandy deals!! As far as this listing, I must mention that I have had music supervisons ask me to compose music in the styles of "House" and "Desp Housewives"....I studied them both and they are actually two different syles. "House" is very much low level intensity a la the listing, BUT, "Desp Housewives" has a much more "sneaky-plucky-pizzacato--almost cute??" feel (very Danny Elfman or Prokofiev)... If the listing had asked for music in the style of "Desp Housewives" I would have sent a whole different batch. ( I'd love to show off those tracks!! Thanks for all the input!! it is appreciated!! AND MOST IMPORTANTLY--CONGRATS TO THE FORWARDS!! Back to writing some off the wall tone pudding that should shock and offend all purists!!peeeeece--jamkern
