left of contemporary country

Nice reviews, guess it's that dang really high bar again perhaps?two songs submitted were:http://www.oneleft.com/taxi/Ribbon.mp3review:Great track. Love the strings, and the vocalist has a very authentic Bob Dylan style voice. The bar is very high with this listing looking for Country music style songs. This kind of songwriting lyrically and melodically, is a little different than what your up to. Melodically and lyrically for your chorus, a more spectacular sing along idea with a catch phrase that folks can remember weeks after the first listen, is needed here for the artist behind this listing.http://www.oneleft.com/taxi/Believe.mp3Rick, I listened twice to your song. It comes close to what we're after; strong title, good vibe, story that has that self deprecating humor that is also sincere. Good work there. Lyrically the song is a bit inconsistent. Some phrases seem more predictable. "Edges ain't real smooth" "by my side/satisfied" rhyme is great. "same ol same ol same ol me" These lines lets me know that you're more than capable of an entire song filled with highly crafted but casual seeming lines that indicate the alt country format. At this level of competition we need that. Weed out the ones that sound too familiar to you; especially familiar rhymeslisting was:Amazing ALTERNATIVE COUNTRY SONGS in the vein of Ryan Adams and Steve Earle are sought by the VP of A&R at Major Nashville Label for a megastar a la TIM McGRAW. They want extremely strong, visual/conversational lyrics with "attitude." Great lyrics, hooks, and melodies all have to be there, but that goes without saying. They're looking a bit to the left of Contemporary Country for this project, but they're still seeking hit songs. All tempos are OK, but up-tempos are always preferred. Please submit one to three songs online or per CD/cassette, include lyrics. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI and must be received no later than Sept. 21, 2007. TAXI # S070921AC

Hey oneleft,That second song has a great vibe, indeed. You got some really great feedback too-- sounds like a few small tweaks on the lyrics and you could craft yourself a mega-hit song. There's a LOT of great songwriters in this forum-- why not post the lyrics and get a few input ideas? I'll bet you're not far off from a great forward for that Super duper hi-bar! Good luck to you! thanks for listening.I'm a little confused about the ones they don't like, it's a short song! Not that much tweaking room to maneuver...Well I like to go out and run around and spend all night out on the town,me and my buds we just get up and goAnd have some honky tonkin fun and then go back home to my hunnow I can't believe she wants to let me knowWell I know my edges ain't real smooth and I drink until I cannot movebut it ain't like I'm something she don't knowWe gone and laid down these here roots so why she want her walking bootsI can't believe she wants to let me goNow this ol' hearts a breakin' cause she ain't here with meI remember way back in the day when she liked my companyI sit all day and watch TV, I'm still the same ol' same ol' meI can't believe she wants to let me goNow this ol' hearts a breakin' cause she ain't by my sideI remember way back in the day when she was satisfiedI sit all day and drink my beer, I'm the same ol' same ol' sittin' hereI can't believe she wants to let me go

Hi oneleft,I'd post those lyrics (and a short note that you'd like tweaking assistance) in the "Lyrics Corner" here: http://taxi.proboards27.com/index.cgi?b ... riclovers2. That's where people can find you and give you some decent feedback. Not sure you'll get found here as much. I don't do much with lyrics myself (or I'd give it a shot), but I know there is a lot of talent behind these boards, and I've seen what they can do in the lyrics section for songs. Go have a look and see! Good luck to you! Keep us posted on you progress-- it's been said (and I think it's been quoted somewhere here on the boards too) that "major hits are not written, they are re-written". So keep us posted! You've got the right attitude of being open, and that's what it takes to make those changes. Go for it! Raags
