Jessica Simpson is ROCK?!!??!?!?!

Post by thedivys » Fri Feb 15, 2008 2:53 pm

This listing baffles me:Current-sounding FEMALE ROCK/POP SONGS in the general range of Fergie, Amy Winehouse, Jessica Simpson, etc. are sought by a Grammy-nominated Producer Y080219FR A little advice Taxi, get a clue. Fergie and Jessica Simpson are NOT Rock!!! Hire me for your screening position. I'll help give you a clue. All due respect

It depends on what kind of music she is lip-syncing to.

All due respectOh yes and your sunny disposition would make you just perfect for the screener's job Btw, speaking about "having a clue", the screeners have nothing to do with writing the listings.

What they probably mean is that they want a cheap cover of the Jessica Simpson cover of Robbie Williams and they think by calling it rock/pop that it will make it edgier than pop/rock (I'm apparently rock/pop when they don't know what to call me BTW). Even better, maybe they want you to sound like Amy Winehouse covering Elvis (oh the horror). No wait, I've got it! They want Fergie to go back to her roots on Kids Inc. and do a cover of Martika covering Carole King. HAHAHAHA I feel almost maniacal suggesting such a thing. I apologize for having such indepth knowledge on the subject and for reading way too far into this It's good to be back and sharing the sarcasm. xoxo

thedivys, if you think the listing baffles you, spend 5 bucks and get the critique. That'll cross your eyes! Then, if you really want a laugh, throw it out for several different listings! 6% success rate? I think I have it figured out why! Later.

In this industry, both inside and outside of TAXI, many requests are vague and contradictory. The best way to know if you might be on target is to ignore whether is says pop, pop/rock, etc. and compare your tracks to samples of the artists mentioned. Casey

Quote:Btw, speaking about "having a clue", the screeners have nothing to do with writing the listings. As matto said, people need to understand that TAXI is presenting what was presented to them. (I know they try to get more info than that if they can)... TAXI can't give you information that was not provided to them in the first place. There is a tendency to think that the people who write listings actually always have a good handle on genres, artists, etc. Sometimes for film/TV, for example, the person writing the listing's job is not necessarily to know all about popular music. I have found quite a few times that they are not as knowledgeable as in an ideal world-- and it is not an ideal world.2 things: (1) Go with the flow and don't dream of that perfect world. Compare your songs to the suggested artists and see if you are in the ballpark. If not, don't submit.(2) With TAXI, you could at least call or email them and ask if they can get more information. They might not be able to, but it's worth a shot. Casey
