Is this Funky song right ?

Post by mikegoudreau » Wed Jan 09, 2008 5:23 pm

Hey funky music fans !Is this song right for this listing ?A range of great, simple-sounding, but authentic FUNK INSTRUMENTALS (no vocals) are needed by a U.K.-based Music Library/Publishing Co. for TV placement. This company ran numerous TAXI listings in 2006 (and signed many TAXI songs) and is now in need of more great material as their service has become very much in demand. Style-wise, think James Brown, Prince, Tower of Power, George Clinton -- that general range. They DON'T want funk fusion (smooth jazz), and they don't want tracks that sound like they were obviously MIDI generated -- authenticity and great performances are the keys. Both instrumentals with lead melody lines and basic backing tracks that serve as "soundbeds" are OK -- they want both. All tempos are OK. Track length should be in the 1:00 -- 3:00 range. At this point they work mostly with prominent U.K. TV channels such as the BBC and ITV, but also supply music to other production companies that broadcast worldwide. They offer non-exclusive, 50/50 deals. Broadcast quality needed [great sounding home recordings are OK]. Please submit one to three songs online or per CD. Please submit one to three songs online or per CD. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI and must be received no later than Jan. 10, 2008.TAXI # S080110FN Here's my instrumental version of my tune " Sensible Shoes "http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... tream=true Cheers, Mike

Thanks for listening B.Flat, yes , I think you have till 11:59 PST to send your song in...I rushed yesterday to record the guitar melody ( this was a vocal tune originally ) and tweaked the mixe...Gotta love the challenge of getting these out at last minute ( I only noticed this listing yesterday) Good luck on getting yours out in time !Cheers, Mike

A guitarist myself, I loved all the guitar...great job!Yes, as a new member, the challenge is the best experience, so far (and the fact that I am writing out of my normal genre)

MikeGreat track - I love the horns. The melody guitar doesn't seem to have quite as much funk in it as the other guitar. It's good, it just seems over shadowed by the other guitar.Trent

Goudreau, this rocks. This sounds like a band I wanna be part of. Thank you for posting it. Hopefully it'll get forwarded as is, but as a piece for Taxi, it might be a little busy. All the artists they mention in the listing are more one-chord groove oriented, things, especially the James Brown. But I guarantee your song is not too busy for my tastes!Appelle moi si tu veux travailler ensemble, sur quelque choses.

Yeah I'm with Steve, the only reason this might possibly be rejected is that it's arguably not "simple sounding" depending on one's interpretation of that term.Otherwise it simply rocks...

You guys might be right about the " simple " factor...I hope not though LOL ! But a very good point !!Tower of Power has some songs with sophisticated chord progressions and complex horn charts...But James Brown does get a whole lot of juice and groove out of one chord. This listing was a bit out of my area of expertise...But I always give it a shot when I think it might go !Here's the 2nd tune I submitted and finished today called " It Works For Me " :http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... ream=1This was also another vocal song originally...I picked these 2 songs because they were the funkiest ones from my original repertoire...Steve leave me your email at mikegoudreau@hotmail.comand I'll contact you...Would love to work with you on something..I love collaborating and often do...Thing is I don't work with sequencers and computers much..I'm kind of old fashioned and like to work with real instruments as much as possible...There seems to be a lot of folks that use computers and synthesizers here and I feel stupid sometimes because I have no idea what folks are talking about on this forum when it comes to such matters. I appreciate the feedback from everyone...Cheers !Mike

Hey Mike,I think both pieces sound real good (love your guitar playing). Just not sure if it fits exactly the bands and vibe that they are going for. But I personally enjoyed both of them.I am going to submit this...just finished it up. http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... tream=true
