Dispatch:why 7 days?

Why do all the dispatch listings only give you 7 days to respond? How can we respond in 7 days?

7 days? That's long for dispatch. I've seen dispatch listings with deadlines of 2 days, 3 days, etc. In fact, TAXI says "You will typically have 24 to 48 hours to get your material in our hands." It's called Dispatch for a reason - they need the music right away. Film/tv production has a very short time line. http://www.taxi.com/members/members-dispatch.html

Hi RikiJava,When we first created Dispatch, it was primarily to keep Film and TV people happy because they often needed music in a pinch and our typical 30 day timeline didn't work well for them. Because the timelines are so short, it's also hard to schedule enough screener hours to meet the deadlines, hence, the yes/no critiques to speed things up. When you see one that's for 5,6, or 7 days, it might not be as much of an emergency situation, but still shorter than our next listing cycle will allow for. So we run it as a Dispatch, so that we don't miss the opp for our members. We've also found that by helping the industry folks when they're in a pinch, they much more likely to remember TAXI for their longer term needs as well. We like that because it creates even more opportunities for our members. Dispatch also has a higher % of signings because of the more desperate needs. It's all good HTH,the late night staff

It's also part of the reality of being a professional composer. Being able to turn around music quickly is an asset in this business if you have the skills, chops and stomach for it.
