What is URBAN really?

Post by che » Sun Mar 23, 2008 5:04 pm

My family mainly does R& B , Hip Hop style music. There are so many different variations within those genres ie: Trap, Southern, old school r& b, new school r&b etc..... Now I keep hearing the term Urban used also. Does anyone know if that's an industry term for a specific style or is more of a general term that's being used encompass the many styles. We are submitting to a listing that says Urban/Hip Hop I am just wondering if what we are submitting is Urban enough?? Urban to me seems like anything that might be more likely to be played on black radio instead of top 40. Not sure.Trying to target our listings better.Any insight is appreciated.
