not forwarded

Post by jude3 » Thu Oct 04, 2007 2:07 pm

I'm sure that many people here have written music that clearly fit the add discription and was of high quality but not forwarded. If the sreener returned it because it was not "right on target" then wouldn't that mean that the screener new more info about what was wanted in the add?

I think it is a fact the screener always is in possession of some information the member does not have. The screener may personally know the person requesting the music, which gives them all kinds of information you do not have. This is for "old Harry" or "old Fred," and old Fred will eject a CD with the first note that is out of tune anywhere. How would we ever know such a thing? Sometimes the screener has even worked for old Harry and knows myriad little details about his likes and dislikes. But beyond that, a return can often happen because the new member thinks he has hit a target he has not. Hitting the target is not the goal anyway, hitting the bullseye is.Unless you post the piece that was rejected along with the text of the listing, no one has much clue what to say about it.

The screener may personally know the person requesting the music, which gives them all kinds of information you do not have. There isn't any "secret" information that the screeners have (although I thought for sure there would be). When HoraceJesse and I took our little Taxi Land trip, I only saw one listing that was waiting to be processed (screened, etc) that had anything "extra" on it and it a little handwritten note that simply said "high bar but give Taxi members a chance". A screener at the Rally told a story that they do develop personal relationships with listing clients and get to know their preferences. One specific example was that a music library owner doesn't even consider songs with proper names (i.e. "Mary Loves Joe"). So "Mary Loves Joe" gets rejected even though it's a great song. Retitle the track to "She Loves Him" and it gets a forward.Quote:I'm sure that many people here have written music that clearly fit the add discription and was of high quality but not forwarded. Many people (including myself) have written music that didn't get forwarded where they THOUGHT the music clearly fit the description and was of high quality.

Any personal information that could be used to identify the listing party is withheld due to past unfortunate incidents caused by crazed members...

Quote:Then why would they not give it out. The members are paying money! Are they supposed to print out every relevant piece of information that may be tucked away in scores of screenrers' minds? I know Michael is working on those brain scanning machines for screeners, but I don't think he has them yet. They tried one brand on a new screener, but the machine fried her brain, making a broth pot of her cranium. They couldn't even put her out on the sidewalk because she could only babble and might have gotten run over by a bicycle. You might want to give Taxi a call because it may well have been her who screened your piece. I heard they gave her some mercy work after that. Can't say Taxi isn't trying though. I am sure when reliable brain scanners become available, Michael will implement them pronto.

Quote:If the sreener returned it because it was not "right on target" then wouldn't that mean that the screener new more info about what was wanted in the add?It was implied. Taxi gives examples in their literature of some of the jobs their screeners have held. It would make good sense that some of the screeners would come to know the listers through various means (employment, meetings, etc). Would I like to be informed that my screener secretly knows that Lister A has a phobia about female vocalists before I submit? Well, yeah, that'd be helpful. Except that when the listing calls for a female vox, I'm assuming that Lister A is gonna hafta squash his personal feelings in order to keep his job. Of course, maybe he doesn't want to keep his job. I don't know. So how would this info really help me in the long run? The listing says what it wants from me, the reviewing process is subjective (we've established that ad nauseum) and we're all jes workin' stiffs who're trying our best to get our work out there. There're so many variables in this process that it's kind of hard to keep track of them all. Personally, I love the spilled coffee subjective screening, wherein my amazingly astute submission is canned because the screener accidentally spilled his beverage in his lap right at the moment my song hits its unbelievably poignant peak .Now that's showbiz.
