Re: ONOFFON
Woah - almost didn't make it for today's ONOFFON SSP of the Day - a review that just came in by a listener over at Download.com - and WHAT a review -ONOFFON"One thing that certainly seperates this particular music group is simply the style in which they play. The combination of alternative, jazz, and rock, does indeed bring forth an original sound, and ONOFFON has emited that glow. With the smooth-relaxing atmosphere of 'Mardi Gras' and the angelic arrangement of 'Shadowglass,' this group has set their own standard. While still maintaining influences and comparisons to such bands as the Harry Connick Jr. New York Big Band, the Dave Matthews Band, the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, and their most likely to be rival Coldplay. In many ways this group distinguishes themselves from the others with the uniqueness of their sound. Songs like the jazzy intelligent 'Weekend In Montreal' and the odd rhythm of 'Surrender Now' leave them in their own category for now. All in all, ONOFFON, is an original sound in the shadow of the unsigned just waiting to explode."Take care, Lisa"Our sincere thanks to Lisa for a wonderful review...

Re: ONOFFON
As yesterday's post came from a review we received yesterday, today's ONOFFON SSP of the Day comes from back in August, 2002 - it came from the Online Artist Network, that included us in a few comp CDs as well as many features, all through the original Mp3.com - these links have gone away but it was cool at the time -"Online Artist Network Hi friends, Hot Artist SpotlightFor the month of August, 3 jazz members on this network have filled the "Hot Artist Spotlight - Jazz" category featured by MP3.com. Congratulations to: Morris Codehttp://artists.mp3s.com/artists/159/morris_code.html George Kahnhttp://artists.mp3s.com/artists/20/george_kahn.html OnOffOnhttp://artists.mp3s.com/artists/7/onoffon.html As I mentioned previously, look out for the forthcoming interviews with George Kahn, Morris Code, and OnOffOn, to name a few. Later, Ivor...Online Artist Network"Ivor still has us linked in his network of independent musicians - seems we all work toward a common goal - thanks to Ivor for his wonderful support...

Re: ONOFFON
The ONOFFON SSP of the Day is a different kind of interview with me - about my time working in special effects. It was conducted by Al from PFTW, who recently posted an amazing review of ONOFFON on a bulletin board on his website -PFTWAn Interview with Von Babasinhttp://p205.ezboard.com/fthewormhole75869frm9.showMessage?topicID=6.topicI have detailed some of my effects work, here, in this thread, accompanied by a few pictures.....

Re: ONOFFON
ONOFFON's SSP of the Day is -Another Y/N TAXI forward!!!!Both songs, 'Weekend in Montreal' and 'Shadowglass', were forwarded for the listing #Y040827JZ.As always, in Y/N listings, there's no Feedback sheet and no Listener ID number to thank. This makes four forwards out of seven submissions for us since we've joined TAXI, with one still pending. We thank our friends at TAXI for continuing to bring us to the plate...

Re: ONOFFON
Today's ONOFFON SSP of the Day is from a drummer friend of mine, Jody English, who came to our gig last night and heard ONOFFON live for the first time - this is what he had to say -"Von -It's Jody. I just wanted to say what a treat that was last night, oh my, are you guys good. I can't figure it out man, you need to be making millions. That is just the best stuff I've ever seen people play and listen to. I thoroughly, thoroughly enjoyed every moment. You truly looked like you're having a great time up there. Like I said, bottom line, I just thoroughly enjoyed every minute and I have to say it one more time I don't know why you're not making millions!Talk to you soon,Jody"Thanks very much Jody - as they say, from your lips to God's ear...

Re: ONOFFON
ONOFFON's SSP of the Day is from BeSonic's jazz charts - contrary to popular belief, I don't do much promotion, if any, over at BeSonic, so it's always nice to see one of our songs pop up in the charts. Today, "Please Baby Please", jumped up to #7 in the USA Vocal Jazz chart -http://www.besonic.com/BeSonic/Music/0, ... FF.htmlAnd, #12 in the Global Vocal Jazz chart -http://www.besonic.com/BeSonic/Music/0, ... tml"Please Baby Please" has always been one of our most popular songs, being a bluesy little finger snapper. It seems to cross over to listeners of all ages...

Re: ONOFFON
ONOFFON's SSP of the Day is from a rather new website - Scrub Records. While there is not a lot of competition over there quite yet, today, our song, "Weekend in Montreal", sits at #1 in Jazz Fusion -http://scrubrecords.com/chart.php?order ... +FusionAnd, "Mardi Gras", is #1 in Latin Jazz -http://scrubrecords.com/chart.php?order ... +-+JazzBut then, "Mardi Gras" is the only Latin Jazz song on the site...

Re: ONOFFON
Today's ONOFFON SSP of the Day comes from a publisher with ABC, Liz Gawlik, on our first CD, Surrender Now -ONOFFON - Surrender NowReviewed by Liz Gawlik"I really like this CD. In fact, I would like to have it signed. Be aware that I'm a jazz/new age fan - of course this colors my review. Surrender Now - Nice beginning, I like the separate entrance of each instrument, bass intro catches attention; Rock Garden - reminds me of Peter Gabriel, second verse makes me begin to think it is as original as some early Genesis; Please Baby Please - I really like this one, percussion is cool and song has a good beat; The Gift Must Always Move and If A Thief Were I - very pretty compositions, also very nice guitar, as nice as Michael Hedges; Remember Only - more direct and less odd than some Patrick O'Hearn I've heard, a nice, unique composition - I like this one a lot. Good stuff!"Our sincere thanks to Liz for her complimentary views of our music...

Re: ONOFFON
Another feature over on Download.com's Jazz page is today's ONOFFON SSP of the Day - you have to scroll down a little on the page but it's there nonetheless -ONOFFONhttp://music.download.com/2001-7985_32-0.html?tag=dir"With flakes of funk bass and blues harmonica, ONOFFON forges solid jazz-rock. Be prepared for some smooth sax playing and Latin-tinged rhythms on the way.Filed Under: Jazz » Jazz-Rock, Prog-Rock/Art Rock"This feature was added yesterday around 11:00 am, so it may go away about the same time today - this is the third time Download.com has featured us on their jazz page...
