space rock/ambient music fans?

Howdy,My name is Geoff Nostrantand this is my 1st posting( Kermit the frog yayyyyyy~!)nice to meet you all here, I am happy to join this site from fellowtaxi member and friend, Steve Sholtes.I am curious to see if there are any lovers of ambient music in the house, as i feel its my strong card, and love creating beautiful/haunting/dreamlike atmospheres...as well as the yang genre to my yin: "wall of noise" space rock I've just got my foot in the door and I hope to open itwith some new friends and colabers here!thanks much and hope to hear from you!peacegeoff

hey there...glad to meet ya....I like alot of different music....but recently I've been listening to and working very hard on electronica for listings here at Taxi....the screener called my song 'Buntzz' ambient, but I'm really investigating sub-genres and everything I can....It's cool that you have a friend here.....are you going to be submitting anything to listings...I'd be curious to see what you're doing....It's also cool that you sort of know what taxi is about (I'm assuming your friend said something besides "can't wait for my discount". ).....It took me over a year to realize that there was a thing called a 'music library' and that's what we're trying to get our music into....I found out on the forum, which I joined recently...2 months ago...without this forum I know I'd be lost....good to have ya here....I'd like to hear what you're up to....If you're interested, you can listen to....Buntzz...or ....Shift.....athttp://taxi.com/vickythebassplayeroh by the way these tunes are a little out for submitting to listings, so don't use them as good examples...good luck in your music,Vicky

Hi Amy thanks for your reply...i checked out both tunes you mentioned...more in the experimental electronic vein right?very cool and obscure like i took acid on the uss enterprise ; )but when i mentioned ambient..i meant...like "eno" and "roach"stuff to float away to....i dug ur surf rock tune~this feel like it came right out of a tarantino film. pretty darn cool!here's one example of a more droney/ethereal side of ambient music i did quite awhile ago:http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... am=trueand this being a more pop space rock tune:http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... peacegeoff

Hi Geoff,I've done a lot of Ambient music, particularly in the 80s, lots of floating "space" music.Recently for TV I've been writing some things that could be considered in that genre as well. hey there geoffmy name is Vicky by the way....very cool sounding stuff....is that all keyboards on the first one? I feel so calm...Is that your voice,,,,it's great!!!! wow...cool how you jump that interval in the verse....it's really emotional...plus that song really builds at the end.... your production sounds really good, too.....What do you do with your "wall of noise" ...sounds funny, but i really mean it...that's got to fit into a genre somewhere around here..What are your goals with Taxi? just curious...good luck,Vicky

and Vicky..im very sorry..i have no idea why i called you Amy:(shame on me..and as the noob...i should be punished or something (sigh)ill do my best to make it up to ya: )ahh ps the first song you asked about..if it was all keyboards..actually : ) its all guitar~ using my fender strat..an ancientibenez 2 rack space analog delay(damn i miss that thing:(a quadraverb gt reverb unit and a cheap digitech guitar pedal(hmm it was yellow..not sure of the model)it was all recorded on a tascam synccassete 8 track recordersooooo muddy sounding!: ) it gave the whole "bioluminescence" album a very underwater sound..so my cheap gear actually helped me get the sound i wanted! the 2nd song..yup thats my voicethat big interval jump? well i practiced that one;)actually its not too hard for men to go in to falsetto(if they arebrave enough)i really really love the voice of Jeff Buckley and the lead singer from a band based in L.A named "the autumns" Matt Kelly(the singer)'s voice is angelic, and in my humble opinion has one of the most unique voices i have ever had the pleasure of hearingdo check em out www.theautumns.comand im really thankful you think the production is goodon the 2nd song (fear will only drown us)these days i work hard on keeping the mix sounding good witheach track i add...reather than waiting until all the parts of the song are done and THEN try to make sonic sense out of it...now i just keep things in the mix as each part buildsheheh~ happy chinese/korean lunar new year Vicky!dont be a stranger!peacegeoff

Geoff...cool that that was all guitar....fooled me ears.....As for angelic voices...you have one....I'm finding the production standards around here easier to accomplish than I had thought...you're using a tascam synccassete 8 track recorder...I bought one from a band named ***** (they recorded '******' with it) many years ago...an older version....and then I recorded an album that way with my old rock band....your music sounds so good...I hope you can find enough listings...you really deserve to be heard....I kind of mix as I go, too....Even though I'm new at engineering, I've spent many a year looking over the engineers' shoulder....commenting on sound...I'm pretty sure we can get away without some fancier gear...if the ears are in charge...good luck,Vicky
