I think I've found the culprit! You were hearing the bass, it was dead centre and cluttering everything up!
I've split it into two tracks and panned it slightly to the left and right now, and I think that has made another big difference!

Hey Nick,
I don't think the bass being centered is the problem. It should be centered.
They idea is to get the guitars spread apart and leave the center for the bass and drums.
Your main riff gits still sound fairly centered.
Next mix try this...solo the left gits. Are they panned far left?
Then do the same with the right.
Now when you un solo what happens? Do they merge into the center or can you still hear distinct parts left and right?
I Know Barry asked before, but did you play the parts separately or are they clones?
Cloned parts will merge back to center unless they are offset by a few milliseconds.

BTW, 1:55-2:15 is absoulutely killer! Really groovin during that part.

I think I finally have it!
I had recorded 2 seperate rhythm tracks, but both were stereo, running a different amp/combo on each channel
Something like:
1 - Boogie left, Marshall right (both hard panned)
2 - Deizel left, Hughes and Kutner right (both panned hard)
But, because I didn't setup a delay between the two signals on each channel I think they were merging into one stereo centre blend.
SO - What I've done now is to pan both signals in one channel left, and both signals in the other right.
Now, I can hear even more separation - and I think it actually comes out much more agressive!
What do you think?

ha ha...are you going nuts yet?
Mixing can be a tricky thing...and sometimes the more you hear something the less objective you can be.
Honestly I don't hear the separation you should be getting.
This latest mix sound like the main riff is more on the left side.
You should be able to have huge sounding guitars with one mono track panned left and the same part (played again) panned right.

I think I may be confusing you with my comments and you're making it more complicated than it needs to be.

I'd start with drums and guitars next mix.
Put one git on the left and one on the right. When you get that sounding good then add more if you need it.

Notice how when the song starts there is one git the left, when things get going another comes in on the right.
They are playing the same part yet you can still hear each individual side and together it sounds huge.

Yeah - going a little nuts! I'm starting to hear things in there that I didn't record! LOL weird little voices and strange sounds (kidding)
I just need to take a break from it I think.
I've posted one more, I think I've achieved just a touch more seperation.
Let me know if you can hear a difference?

And now, I'm gonna walk away from this one for a while maybe come back to it in a few days and see if I can't make it any better.

James, I didnt read this thread at all, just had a listen and forgive me if I'm repeating what was said! For me the snare sounds like its not blending with the rest of the kit. I'm really wanting some shredding guitar work, that would take this track right into the pocket, bass and drums are VERY meaty and dig the groove. Is it Slipnotish, I'd say its in the same genre but I don't know enough Slipnot to qualify... Great work, well worth the effort to get this in the can!
