advice from people with forwards please

Post by gilesthefirst » Thu May 06, 2010 4:22 am

Hi Everyone!

I want to pitch for the listing that asked for songs to do with smiling (details below).
I made a recording of a song I wrote specially for this listing, and I want to know if I am presenting it right.

Here is a first mix:
http://www.film-and-tv-music.com/koehor ... 0smile.mp3

Here is the listing:
CONTEMPORARY SINGER-SONGWRITER-type SONGS about "SMILE/SMILING" needed by a successful Music Publisher based in L.A. who's gotten tons of great Film/TV placements for many TAXI members. Open to all tempos. Male or Female vocals are okay. No instrumentals please! Universal lyrics are necessary. Vocal and instrumental presentations must be top-notch! Recordings need to be Broadcast Quality (great home recordings should be fine). They offer a non-exclusive, 50/50 split deal - you keep your original copyrights. Please submit one to three songs online or per CD, include lyrics. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI - and must be received no later than Friday, May 21, 2010.
TAXI # Y100521SS

Since there is no critique offered for this listing and since this will be the first one I am sending in, my questions are to do with presentation:
- Am I presenting the song right?
- Is the quality OK? Is it contemporary enough?
- Would it be better to just present it with just an acoustic guitar?

All comments, especially from those who have had forwards, are greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys!

Hi gilesthefirst,

While I've had many forwards, they haven't been necessarily in this genre of music. :? I really enjoyed listening to your track, and from what I can tell it does sound like something current, something that I might hear on the tv shows these days. I really liked the presence of your voice, and I could see it getting used for many kinds of placements.

Best wishes to you!! Keep us posted when you get this one placed!! :D :D

Hi Markus,

I think that you are right on target for this listing! It reminds me of some of Paul McCartney's solo work. No particular song...just his style. Well done. :)

Thanks Stuart, much appreciated. Interesting that you caught my McCartney influence. I absolutely love his early stuff. RAM is still an all time masterpiece in my opinion. :-)

I thought it was really cool and I would use it for a project....If you're leaning towards using just vocals and guitar, that would be great too...maybe just vocals and guitar in the beginning and at the appropriate moment kick in the drums and the rest of your instrumentation as a surprise sort of thing....Great hook, outstanding vocal, cool chord selection, I think a winner!

I just listened to the track and I like it! I think I would also enjoy hearing it with just acoustic guitar as well. Your voice and intonation are good!! I hope you get a forward. If you do not, keep going. Unfortunately this business has a lot more no's than yes's. Keep up the good work and good fortune!!! Thanks for the opportunity to hear your music!

Peace,

Thanks Jay, and everyone else. I sent it in but I haven't heard anything yet. Next time, I might do a simpler arrangement, with just guitar.
