Hi -
I have a good friend that will be coming to the Rally with me as my guest. He is not a member and he wondered if it would be better for him to join before going to the Rally. I thought it might be better for him to wait until he can see what it is about and see if it is a good fit for him. He does Kids music and I am not sure if Taxi is the right fit for him at this point.
What do you suggest? Should he join before coming out?
Thanks everyone.

Re: Question about having my guest join Taxi
I don't think there is even a hint of pressure to have your guest become a member. He should attend only with the intention of having a great time and absorbing as much of the experience as he wishes. If he feels Taxi is a good fit, great. If not, you still had an opportunity to share an amazing event with a friend.

Re: Question about having my guest join Taxi
TAXI is not Scientology (apologies to the Scientologists out there), there won't be anyone constantly pestering your friend to join TAXI at the Rally. Your friend will be able to get a good idea at the Rally whether it's a good fit or not. The Rally really speaks for itself.
There's actually a lot of people who do children's music that I've met at Rallies.
See you soon!

imagine if John Williams and Trent Reznor met at Bernard Hermann's for lunch and Brian Eno was the head chef!

Re: Question about having my guest join Taxi
One thing to do for sure is to have him follow the Taxi listings to see how many listings appear for Children's songs. Right now there are none! I co-wrote a children's song with another Taxi member and so I was following the children's listings for a while. My sense is that there aren't a lot of those from month to month. I think that the Rally can get them all fired up for sure but if there's only a half-dozen childrens' song listings each year, they should really look at that to avoid feeling "let down by Taxi" if they join and then find out there's not many of those listings.
To me, that's one of the biggest reasons for "post-Taxi disappointment" rants... just not doing enough up-front homework to see if Taxi is really a good fit for them.

Re: Question about having my guest join Taxi
Hi Guys -
Thanks for your thoughts. I completely understand that there isn't any pressure from Taxi to join and that they won't solicit or segregate the guests... He had read somewhere that it was suggested he join before going to the Rally. i told him I didn't think that was necessary, and it would be a great way to check out what Taxi was all about, learn from the Rally and go from there.
Thanks for confirming what I thought.
