NI's new guitar effect - "Rammfire"
NI have released a unique amp sim which is modelled off Richard Z Kruspe's rig (Rammstein). It only has one purpose so if you're after chicken pluckin' twang, smooth jazz, or hair-metal, move along right now - there's nothing here for you. Richard worked closely with the NI engineers to get the sound right, and if the marketing blurb can be trusted, he uses it at home now for writing instead of cranking up his amp.
I downloaded it a few days ago and I have to say I am absolutely loving the sound it gives me. I gave up on real amps because I have no need of one, so this gives me the sounds I need for industrial music without needing to melt the adjoining walls in my apartment with a real Rect.
My only frustration is I have passive pups, standard tuning, and no doubt, lighter strings than Richard uses, so I can't get the sound in the demos but I am 100% happy with my tone given the limitations of my guitar.
It can be used in 3 of the Guitar Rig 4 versions: Pro, Essential, or the free player.
Check it out here and listen to the demo tracks that Richard recorded - http://www.native-instruments.com/#/en/ ... ntent=1248
This is the first track I've made with it. All the guitars went through Rammfire - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ffbH2ZFVUUg
Oops. Just noticed I never recorded a bass line.

What are you plugging your guitar into physically? That could make a pretty big difference. Also, what gtr and pickups may I ask?
MAYBE I can help you... work into a bit better sound.
Btw, The song is sounding pretty cool btw.

@ Mojo - yeh, I've done some experimenting by applying it to drums, bass and synths. Can get some great sounds. Ps. Mojo, thanks, I updated the link.
@ Rob - Guitar is an ESP Horizon Custom with Seymour Duncan JB/59 set. It plugs into a Boss GT-10 which does the A/D conversion where I add compression and limiter. Then directly into PC where I record the signal, in this case 4 times. One panned far left, one far right, and two center. Each track has a different Rammfire setting.

Hey Rob,
Try recording without ANY compression or limiting in your boss. That guitar should be fairly hot (not active hot of course) with those pickups imho and the comp limiter in the boss may be hurting you. The RamFX should act as compression all on it's own. I know the compression on my zoom is just too much, I don't use it at all... ever. Quite often you don't need to compress at all not even in your DAW, the amp sim of tubes will compress just because of trying to emulate tube distortion which in itself is compression. It's very common for guitars to have no compression at all anymore.
Anyway, try that and see what ya get, experiment with different settings if it's too much without any comp... try compressing in your DAW first though. Before the RamFX and after.

Re: NI's new guitar effect - "Rammfire"
Thanks Rob. On the above song (that link still has the old version), I've added one more track using my Metal Zone and that has given a great sonic result.
Honestly, I don't like compression/limiting and don't use it when I don't have to. But I had to use a little to get the signal balanced right for palm muting and low end barre chords, but I will try some experiments now and see what I can achieve. Thanks again. I'll update you with what I find out.

Sounds like a plan... I am EXTREMELY interested in that RamFX if for nothing else.. the chunkin'. So any info you can gather up and share I would GREATLY appreciate it...Cruciform wrote:... BTW.. have you tried out the Peavey Revalver MKIII yet? That thing has a pretty amazing sounding "triple rectifier" in it. I think the Peavey 6505+ model sounds a TAD bit better sonically... for obvious reasons. HAHA You might wanna check that thing out dude. Especially if you are using GTRrig4 normally. First time I loaded up Revalver MKIII and started "chuggin" the low E... I immediately tuned down to D.. just to see... I think I had tears in my eyes dude... ROFL
Overloud's TH1 sounds pretty friggin awesome too... like a kid in a candy store with that crap. GTRrig4 has taken a back seat because TH1 and Revalver MKIII has taken the front, commandingly. imho
Also check this link out... http://www.guitarampmodeling.com/viewto ... 0187e6cce7 That dude has a sample of him playing "Aerials" System of a Down. It's AMAZING how he took a convolution off the ALBUM.. I kid you NOT.. the friggin Album and sounded awesome.
I have found a few "free" amps on the net as well that sound AMAZING. But the CPU loads are heavier then the MKIII or the TH1, seemed that way to me, but I only tried them once so far. I spent a whole day.. like 12+ hours testing them. In case you are interested I found them all because of finding this thread over at Ultimate-Guitar.com.. link here: http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/forum/sh ... ?t=1131250
That thread showed me a few things too, as far as getting a good metal sound with free crap non the less...
Have fun.. but don't forget to mess with the RamFX and report back plz!! hehe... I MIGHT be buying the Komplete 7 upgrade from K6 and any heads up on that thing would be cool.

Re: NI's new guitar effect - "Rammfire"
Hey Rob, I'll be updating to Komplete 7 at some point but I couldn't wait for Rammfire. Had to have it now. NI must love customers like me. "Hi, my name's Rob and I'm an NI-a-holic".
But there's method in my madness. I'm writing a whole bunch of industrial tracks right now and I needed something gutsier.
At this point I haven't tried tweaking comp/limiting etc as I've just been loving the sound and recording with the presets. But I'll get to it soon! I've been able to really beef it up with the Crysonic Spectralive plugin. I'll post another demo later - doing final tweaks before I submit it to a library.
I haven't tried any of the other modelling software, mostly because up until now I've been happy with the vast range of sounds I can get from my Blackstar Ht-Dual + Boss Metal Zone + Boss GT-10 combination. Actually the only reason I have GR4 is because it came in Komplete 6. I don't use it much for guitar - mainly it gets employed as a large effects studio for other stuff. However, playing with Rammfire has inspired me to really explore GR4, so that's now on the to-do list.
Youre' right....that "Aerials" IR is AMAZING!!!

Re: NI's new guitar effect - "Rammfire"
Hi guys
Don't want to start another amp modelling thread but I have a suggestion for a real good authentic metal guitar sound. Try out Softubes Metal Amp Room: http://www.softube.com/metal_amp_room.php
This is the only plugin that sounds "real" to my ears. And it's less cpu hungry. It also works well with the IR's Rob mentioned before (they are really killer).
And also check out the new plugin from Brainworx: http://www.brainworx-music.de/en/plugins/bx_shredspread
This tool blows me away. OUTSTANDING!

Re: NI's new guitar effect - "Rammfire"
Given that the Player is free and RammFire costs less than many run o' the mill stompboxes, it's kind of a no-brainer, if you do that sort of music.
