It's a tempting alternative to a slave PC, that's for sure.

imagine if John Williams and Trent Reznor met at Bernard Hermann's for lunch and Brian Eno was the head chef!

Sounds Like one of those could do more than two or three slave PCs at the same time. $1600 for a standard? My wife better hide my Sweetwater and my Guitar Center Cards .

This is starting to look really good the more I thnk about it. Audio and midi over Ethernet is where we are headed. I need to see if I need the tax deduction this year! Hmmmmm

Wow this is a huge step up over the original receptor and a step down in price. Now I think I'm gonna have to give this serious consideration...

I was a fan of the original, (never actually got around to buying one) based on ruggedness alone; I've seen too many beer-fueled rock gigs, heh. There is one drawback, though; the Receptor is Linux-based, and all the plugins need a special version written to run on Receptor. Usually the RTAS and VST versions get written first, whenever there's an upgrade to a plugin; if you're the type that has to have the latest thing first, you could be in for a long and itchy wait.

But my main VI is Kontakt and also the Spectrasonics stuff and that all seems to be cool on there (even Play, I think).

I'm more interested in VIs than plugins, I have tons of great plugs between my UAD and MOTU setups on my main computer which I use for mixing. I need the juice to run instruments. In fact, a Receptor would give me an extra 2 or 3 years at least on my 8 core mac because it does just fine mixing tons of audio tracks and I could have the other computers and a Receptor doing the heavy lifting of the VIs. Plus with one computer already doing so, and a Receptor using only Ethernet for audio and MIDI, that eliminates a ton of cabling from my studio setup.

Woo Hoo

This looks incredible. I forgot about Receptor. How do you load up the vi's? Feed them into it from your computer?

There's tons of info including videos and manuals on their website. It has connections for monitors and keyboard/mouse, so maybe it can be done directly, although you'd have to attach an external HD to it. It does have USB and eSATA connectors!

It's basically a Linux computer purpose built to run plug ins and VIs with supporting hardware.

The videos are worth watching.
