I received an email from Native Instruments about being qualified for the Public Beta Testing of the next version of Battery 3. I think it's version 3.2 I don't know about anyone else but I'm a little leary of beta testing anything especially something that would go on my main daw machine. I was just wondering if anybody has done this and have any details/war stories you'd care to share...
Thanks!

Re: NI Battery 3 Beta Testing
I beta tested a lot of software over the years but most recently I tested NI Kontakt 4. It worked very well for me and I didn't have any issues with data loss or problems. I think the NI stuff is pretty well cooked before they release it for general beta testing.
It all depends on how you feel about it. I wasn't too concerned and it didn't give me any problems. But I did save often and keep back up copies of everything - not that I ever needed to resort to them.

That's interesting. Do you think your copy of Battery reports back to NI about whether you're a power user? Beta testing is generally no big deal, but you might want to take some precautions; save a new user profile in your OS, maybe on a partition, so you don't bugger the install that's your bread and butter, and boot into that for testing.

OH, one more thing - in Kontakt, it does overwrite your current version. So, if you are using, say version 4.0 and beta test Vs 4.1 and you want to go back to 4.0 you have to reinstall it from the disk.
Again, I didn't have any troubles and am about to install Kontakt 4.2 beta. But it is something to think about.

Maybe purchase Acronis (or something like it) and back up your system before installing.
I did this before trying to mess around with VMWare and settiing up another OS...long story short, it did not work (gave a new IP, therefore changing my computer ID...I would have to then authorize a boatload of plugs!)
But I took a deep breath....hit restore....and all was good in the world.
